Mutuals are at the discretion of your captain and their approval is based upon wind direction, temperature, and just about anything. You can't really rely on mutuals. There is nowhere to sleep at EMD as far as I know. Most stations don't really have spots for sleeping.

All the volunteer ambulances are given a NYC radio designation and can be activated in extreme emergencies. However that is extremely rare and they are not dispatched by the 911 system.

They are not dispatched by the 911 system. They either respond to calls that were placed directly to them, or, more likely they listen to scanners and show up on calls lime all of the volunteers in NYC.

They are not part of FDNY, nor were they. They are employees of a private Hospital in Staten Island - Richmond University Medical Center. They should rethink their career choice.

You can expect to be busy for a full tour. What you get is unpredictable but the units that come out of those stations aren't known for having much downtime.

39, 44 and 57 are a good bet

They have a medic class. People do go to college and take their medic class on the outside - it just isn't always easy

FDNY is not particularly accommodating. Mandation is always an option. Your schedule is determined by your platoon and mutuals are at the discretion of your officers.

39 - east New York, 44 - Brownsville, 57 - Bed Stuy, any of the south Bronx stations are generally busy and have a good mix of trauma and medical for both ALS and BLS.

You will be there all day no matter when you get there. You have the lowest priority - retirees, firefighters, current ems medical a will all bypass you on the line
