Thank you very much for that information
@RMTMedic .
I have two questions, but I will ask here so others who may have the same intrigue can benefit.
Is it possible to work where you do and live out of state, to commute? Is it a 1week on/1week off type of schedule?[/QU

Yes, we have folks that live in NYC, Washington State, North Carolina, Indiana, etc. Depending on your contract you work 7 on 7 off, 14 on 14 off, 21 on 21 off (personally I love 21/21), or 28 on 28 off.
Most companies don't pay you when you are off hitch. However, at SMS (while on hitch) you are paid 8hr regular time each day and 4 hours overtime each day, Saturdays and Sundays are 12 hours overtime. SMS also pays you a mileage pay (roundtrip) to a max of $300.00 (if you complete your whole hitch offshore). The farther away you live from Lafayette the more you get. I live in North Texas, so I get the full $300.00.
Some assignments are great, some lousy. My first assignment I was on for 2.5 years. I was the Admin Clerk, Training Coordinator, Helicopter Landing Officer, Medic, Crew Coordinator, Galley Inspector, etc. My current assignment, I have been on for 3.1 years. I'm the Medic, and also maintain the ship's hazmat database (easy job).
