aemt online courses that can test out skills in or near NY

Unless you are planning to practice West of Syracuse, don't even bother. The Eastern side of the state either doesn't recognize it (New York City) or the region's limit your skills to essentially assisting a paramedic partner with an IV. As far as online goes, New York in general does not take...

    FTO Extended Me?

Honestly OP, I would take the extra days almost as a blessing. As a few have mentioned, in the grand scheme of things, nine or ten days is a drop in the bucket. The agency I have been with for a number of years now runs all recruits (who are already certified btw) through an 8 week...

    Mohawk Ambulance- Albany County

I know people that have worked there; in the city of Albany there is a lot of 911, but you serve as a taxi for the fire/medics most of the time, same thing with Schenectady. Rensselaer county is pretty 911 transport heavy from what I've been led to believe. Just like any private, transfers are...

    NYers taking NREMT

When I was doing my psychomotor for AEMT (they made us test separately), there were two CC's there with me because the representative whom they had been dealing with had told them that they could not initially certify at the I99 level anymore; that's all I got. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

    Naloxone routes, which and why?

It's not profound, which is what makes it nice. I'd say it takes 5 minutes for full effect, but I usually would estimate seeing some minor changes after the first minute or so.

    Naloxone routes, which and why?

I am a huge fan of IM; a senior Medic I had the fortune to work with taught me the value of it about two years ago. IM metabolizes a little slower for a smoother, easier wake-up, it doesn't seem to "wear out" as fast as IN, and you don't have to worry about getting the line in that junkie with...

US Paramedic Attempting Equivalency in Ontario

Another option would be attempting to transfer your certs to NYS and gaining reciprocity from there as NY and Ontario have some semblance of agreement in place for this; I know it is currently valid for the AEMT-> PCP, NRP-> ACP is something that I've seen done, but not recently enough to be 100%

    Oxygen and opiates

I mean you should always oxygenate/ventilate your overdoses due to respiratory depression, but I have never heard of O2 reducing the half life of an opiate. Chemistry wise I'm not even sure how it would work honestly, the math just doesn't work out... There are a lot of studies out there that...

    Can you downgrade to BLS?

Yes. I can and do regularly, however if it was dispatched as a priority ALS call, I need to enter my assessment into the ePCR as well.

New EMT-B looking around the United States

First of, reciprocity varies heavily by state (though NR is a step in a right direction) and the best way to find out would be to call the EMS office of the state in question. And I'm not familiar with Ft. Meyers in particular, however there are many private ambulance companies elsewhere in...

    Glasses vs. Contacts

I like my glasses; gives me a little "built in" splash protection

Handcuff key? Do you carry one?

I do have a key in my bag, however also have cross training in LE and keep it there for when I do LE related work. I have had one episode in the last 4 years where it was handy, but not necessary.

    AEMT study guide?

I haven't checked recently, but when I was taking it, it was still "new" and there wasn't much in the way of quality study guides. Now that you've taken the exam, you have an idea of what the key topics are; study those thoroughly.

    Radio Holster?

I believe Safariland makes a "universal radio holster" for both a swivel belt clip and strap setups

Is long hair professional in EMS?

A memorable quote from my FTO on my first day, "If you look professional you feel professional, if feel professional you act professional and if you act professional you are professional"... shamelessly steal it to this day for my own trainees.

EMT in Canada Vs United States

New York and Ontario actually had/have a reciprocity agreement of sorts in place. Particularly with the new national standards here, the education lines up much more closely. I would check with your provincial EMS authority and see if they have an agreement in place with Montana or Washington...

Paramedic to RN bridge - NY Area

"New York" as in the city or the state as a whole?

first call of the day is...

Jumped an ALS assist called in by one of the BLS IFT trucks in the city on scene at an MVA they rolled up on, crew couldn't be contacted to provide an update. Arrive on scene to a trauma code with entrapment.

    Frustrated NREMT in Los Angeles

As a practical matter of being legally able to practice in a state? Fairly useless... What the NREMT really is is proof that you have completed a recognized and standardized course of study, it's not meant to be a national certification.

    Is ems not for me?

If you do end up looking to move, Buffalo and Detroit are similar in many ways (including cost of living) and the city 911 service has a $1000 signing bonuses for basics and you will certainly see some stuff; there is a shortage of paramedics in the city, so BLS handles many calls.
