No Time Limit for Editing posts

As a new EMT, I may post something only to later realize an error or another way to more clearly communicate a concept. So long as no-one has quoted me, I don't see any harm in being able to edit a post beyond 10minutes. This will prevent multiple posts for clarification and prevent a thread from being de-railed.

Thanks.

The premium membership allows you to edit your post after the 10 minute time frame.

Otherwise just double check what you are reading

The reason we have limits in place is because, in the past, people would go back and either delete their post or change parts of it, making the thread difficult to follow. So we've place limits to keep this from happening. Ten minutes is plenty of time to make any changes necessary.

Also, see tip in signature below.

I have edited a lot of stuff. Grammar, extra thoughts, etc and like Chimpie said, 10 minutes has been ample time to do so.

I always proof read my posts. 10 minutes is enough to fix any spelling or grammar errors.

Time restriction has its plethora of problems, not the least of which Is copyright infringement, considering the fact that users own the intellectual property rights to their own posts.

Or you can use the intellectual aspect that you speak of and make sure that you not only A) think before you post but B) read over your reply before you post it. 10 minutes is ample time in my opinion to make any necessary changes. If you fall out of that 10 minute window quote your original post and make the necessary corrections. It's not rocket science.

True, but that would make for a difficult read in the event multiple corrections are needed, and would, by extension, make threads of a much longer length than what is really necessary.

So then I resort back to B) read over your reply before you post it. Or you can buy a premium membership and have 24 hours OR you can buy a premium+ membership and have 1 week to make any corrections.

Premium membership? You must be joking Right? Not so sure this is the sort of thing that I would be willing to pay good money on. Facebook groups have more functionality than this, and that's for free.

Nobody is holding a gun to your head to buy anything on here. It was merely a suggestion, take it with a grain of salt. In my honest opinion you should put some forethought into what you're going to post on here and have the intellectual capability to form simple sentences and grammar structure. Mistakes happen, we're human, it's not the end of the world. Me personally, I read over the reply before AND after I post it. That way if theres something I missed, I can catch the mistake and make any corrections. If I don't catch it within the 10 minute time frame, oh well. **** happens.

I still wish it was at least 30 minutes.

I post on many forums and normally I will reread my posts a bit later and correct grammar. Most other forums do not have a time limit and the only one that does has a 60 minute limit. It is hard to remember when I come here that I have a mere 10 minutes, and often I don't have time.

Such a short limit results in lower quality content for the forum.

I think a 60 minute limit is fair.

I wish the time limit was longer as well. It is nice to go back and add a link or some further detail without having to do another post. I think 30-60mins is reasonable.

Sometimes we have policies just to have policies, they aren't always based on best practices.

The editing time policy is a result of a member going back and deleting all of their posts many years ago.

Is an hour (60 minutes) more reasonable?

60 is more than reasonable. I also like what (I think it was Facebook) has, where under/above the comment where it says "edited" you can hover over it and see the original comment. This helps combat people going back on what they said before, or deleting their comments, while still letting people edit their grammar/add on to their post.
