WOW. You'd think things would be built a lil sturdier considering the weather you guys usually get.

It's hard to realize what storms like that can do especially when you live in an area such as ours, where you don't see storms packing kind of strength.

Thanks for the pics.

Jon
I like cooper cheese.

After a Tornado here in 1998, we wrote a list in the paper... 101 Ideas long.

"101 Reasons Not to Build Your Roof with Wood"

The first twenty involved the firehouse, ambulance garage, and buildings whose roofs blew off and struck the firehouse and ambulance garage.

The only hurricane problems we see this far north are rain, wind and flooding. Largest iron railroad bridge in the world was in one of the PA State Forests I worked in, Hurricane Ivan after winds took that out. In 100 years of weather forecast recording, only two "hurricanes" made it to Pennsylvania. Hurricane Hazel in 1956, and Hurricane Agnes in 1972. Agnes was responsible for sending the worlds largest railroad company, The Lehigh Valley Railroad, into the hole. Literally. They went broke, and 88% of their track beds were destroyed. The town I lived in still has damage reminders 33 years later, the railroad tracks were never moved, and they are still bent from the flood waters. The train that was in town in June 1972, is still there, hasn't moved since then.

Reason #4 I am glad I don't live in Florida: Hurricanes.

Reason #6 I am glad I don't live in Florida: Two words: Jeb Bush
Reason #7 I am glad I don't live in Florida: Old people (main reason for Reason #3)

You've obviously never been though swarms of love bugs on a motorcycle. :P

I see the spray paint, do you know what their markings mean? Im assuming that was from searches. We had talked about MCI markings, but it never came to pass.

It looks like the standard fire services SAR markings for interior/building searches.

The spray paint does signify the search and rescue/fire portion has been complete. A single / would indicate a primary search has been complete usually by the FD using their hands and lifting what they can. An X would indicate the secondary is complete and the structure is clear. The secondaries have been done (in our case any way) by and Urban Search and Rescue Team and their dogs. Somewhere I have a picture of one of them. I will see if I can locate it.

SEARCH AND RESCUE....THANKFULLY 0 BODIES FOUND!
