Welcome!

I'm from SE Michigan and work in Metro Detroit. I can't think of any new private EMS company though. Maybe you can PM me the name?

Welcome to the board :)

We did our class in 3 weeks: 14hrs a day, 5 days a week with clinicals on the weekends. Not much of a life for those 3 weeks!!

It has been done in a few places, I think.... I really don't like the idea.... kinda like cramming for an exam...

Yeah, I was wondering how much knowledge retention they have in six months.

I didn't say anything about your skill level, only that I'm not a fan of the idea....

I had no intention to offend.

And we already had the "rapid emt course" discussion a few months back.

How do you learn the whole book in two weeks?

My NREMT-B course was Dec. 92-June 93 (Law said I only had to be 16 when the course was finished, made it by 6 days)

Wilderness EMT Course was 68 Hours; 8 in class room, 60 in the field
EMT-P course was Sep. 1995-Nov. 1997

Even my EMT Instructor Course was three months.

I didn't mean to offend you, but I was wondering how much knowledge retention is kept after taking a class like that. I would like to see a comparision study between a traditional class and the bootcamp class. Compare NREMT exam results at the end of class and again in six months, to see what the trends are.

With the brevity of the class combined with the amount of material covered, it would seem to me that the entire class would be similar to one big cram session. Also, if your patient contacts were done on a weekend, how many could you really get in a three week period?

I'm not saying it isn't a good program, because I don't know anything about it other than what you've told us. It may be the best thing in EMS since the invention of 4x4's, but it is going to take an awful lot of evidence to convince me of that. It just seems too much like a diploma mill to me, but that is just my opinion.
