Hello. everyone! I am the new girl to the site! I found out last week that I passed and am now an NREMT-B! So, I thought I'd introduce myself and ask a question...I am an ER technician in a level II Trauma Center and am soon to be a new EMT volley with my local FD. (I have done many ride alongs with them, but haven't done patient care in a medic unit, only the ER) I hope to get into paramedic school this fall and get enough years of experience to become a flight medic. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but are there paid positions for EMT-B's out there? Would love to get out there and get started! Also, if anyone wants to share their "newbie" stories, that would be great!!

Of course there are paid positions. I have one. It's part time, and we don't own an ambulance, but it's a whole lot of fun. ;-)

Oh, and welcome to the site. Feel free to ask questions, and remember, there's no such thing as a stupid question.

Unless you pick up a BVM and say "WTF is this thing?" ;)

Welcome to EMTLife!!

As for paid EMT-B positions, sure, they're all over the place.

Where do you live?

Hey. I'm a newbie too. Congrats!!

fm_emt... I did something sort of like that... kinda. I was going through my medical assessment with my "partner" (just practicing before registry, etc) and the instructor we had was a cardiac patient. I completely spaced and took 'shortness of breath' to be respiratory. I kept wanting to give my CARDIAC patient a neb treatment.... to this day he hasn't let me live it down.

Welcome!

There are many paid EMT-B positions, though it really depends on what you want do. It seems like you already have a connection to the hospital, so next time a crew comes in with a patient I'd ask them. They probably know the most about your area.

I told a patient to evelate his bleeding arm above his head... not his heart. Yeah, that wasn't right.

Welcome. I have a paid EMT position with our county. Matts suggestion of asking the crews when they come in is a great one.

Newbie stories??? Can't say as though I have any of my own....Nope.

Well I did have my CPT crawling under an SUV in the rain looking for a key I had hidden under there....

:) :) :) Welcome!!! :) :) :)

Princess, you are SO full of it LMAO.

I've been working for my paid service for almost 2 months now, definitely pull aside one of the crews when you see them again, I'm sure they'll be happy to help you out.

Welcome to EMTLife - we put the Fun in Dysfunction!

Welcome to the forum and profession. Don't have any newbie stories, but I have some oldies, but goodies...
