I just recently passed my written exam. I am 17 years old. (our town has a waiver allowing minors of 16 years of age and up to run on our squad). We're all volunteer, and as a result I run on an as-needed basis. Our call base is mainly medical, since we run out of a really small town. So yeah, I just wanted to say hi.

Welcome to EMTLife Imagine. Where are you from?

I'm from Massachusetts. Sorry.

:) :) :) Welcome!!! :) :) :)

Nice to see someone your age making something of thier lives so early. Kudos to you! I hope you enjoy the site.

Welcome.

I'm 20, and have been an EMT for ALMOST 5 years in PA. (I turn 21 in June)

Hey Imagine,

I am 16! I live on Long Island but work as a Patroller in the National Ski Patrol in the Poconos PA. I also work with the New Jersey Bike Patrol, patrolling events in state parks, this is a branch of the NJ Region of the National Ski Patrol.

I am going sunday to a Volunteer Ambulance Corp in PA to join probably become a CFR first maybe in a year go for EMT. My dad and I are doing all this EMS stuff together, if he wants to go for EMT now though ill gladly do it.

I love hearing that other people around my age arent just sitting around wasting life. I like the others that do this am doing something I love and helping others at the same time.

Out of curiosity - which resort in the poconos? My grandfather has a timeshare at Shawnee, and I've been there a couple of times.

I also knew someone who ran with an ambulance Co. in Lacawanna county, too.

Currently Jack Frost and Big Boulder Ski Resorts in Blakeslee. The "PERFECT POCONO SKI AREAS"...Sorry that was my mountain bit. Jon, feel free to come and ski at Jack Frost anytime during the ski season. I would be glad to show you how the Ski Patrol does things and then you can tell me the differences.

I'd love to.

My Boy Scout troop went skiing either there or Blue Mountain... I didn't go... and one of our youth broke his arm while snowboarding... (figures).

Anyway.

Hrm. If you're still there next season, maybe I'll take you up on that. I'd be curious to see how others do things.

One problem. I cannot ski. At all. :P

ok clear something up for me people. doesnt NREMT only allow people 18 and older to take the test? the class i took had a requirement of 18 and older because they required it.

or did they take a totally different test with someone else?

someone clarify this for me please.

The waiver I mentioned holds anyone in our town exempt due to the fact that we run on a 100% volunteer base, and need all the members we can get.

The National Registry requires ALL of their test takers (-B, -I85, -I99, -P) to be 18+.

Individual states may or may not. We just can't get the pretty, patriotic patch if we are 16/17 unless we take the NR test after we turn 18.

PA says you must be 16 upon the day of testing for EMT-B, and 18 before you START an EMT-P course.
