I've heard through rumors they pay with hubcaps from used ambulances. Must say, for such a simple sarcastic answer I laughed harder than I should have... Caught me off guard

Delano in Kern, they probably pay with food stamps. Porterville pays with the used hubcaps.

I'm having trouble finding a job since I have no ems experience yet.

But I also don't want to end up horribly broke lol.

What county are you looking in? I know AMR runs out of Porterville in Tulare Co, anything in Kern Co and people (including me) are going to recommend Hall Ambulance.

Tulare, you're kinda limited to a extent. If you're in the southern end of the county AMR runs out of Porterville, don't know their coverage area. The further north you go so towards Exeter/ Clovis extending to Fresno then you'll have better options.

No problem, wish I could be of more help. I worked up there for the fire season, so I have a very limited knowledge of what ambulance companies are where. My suggestion would be either AMR - Porterville or up in Fresno/ South Fresno Co.

AMR Porterville is run by AMR Visalia and only run 1-2 units per shift for all of Porterville. You have to start out in Visalia where they run multiple units and get enough seniority to regularly work Porterville. Visalia is not a bad place to work, but don't think you will be starting off in Porterville.

Imperial Ambulance is also out of Porterville and run 3-4 units per shift. They hire EMTs regularly, but usually only part time. Full time EMT spots in Tulare County are very rare and many EMTs work at two or more companies.

Try any of the casinos... I worked for Eagle Mountain Casino... Great pay, benefits, perks and coworkers. Delano, although the experience I got there was awesome, isn't where you want to be if you need to make money. EMC is almost 15 an hour (like Tachi Palace, and no one applies, they'll take you fresh out of school) where as DAS paid minimum wage and only 13 out of your 24 hours. They run great calls and are busy, you bust your butt and learn quickly for about 650 every 2 weeks... At the casinos its super slow (especially after you've run 911, or w any Ambulance Co. for that matter) however; you'll take home over 800 every two weeks with literally 1/2 the hours and 1/90 of the physical demand! Hope that helps, good luck! (American is a good company as well, just tough running on per diem- if there's work there's OK pay, no work.... Outta luck, I couldn't get by w a kid at home and no set schedule)

Ya I got a kid also so what exactly do u even do at a casino

All the casinos up here have their own EMS. When you have the potential of thousands of people in a small area it makes sense. Also, a lot of the people at the casinos are not in the best health. You see the same type of patients you would see anywhere. Chest pain, SOB, seizures, diabetics, etc. You assess the patient, and if they need transport, you contact the local EMS and treat them until the local EMS gets there and takes over patient care. From the casino EMTs I have talked to, it is not the most exciting job, but you will definitely get patient contact experience and the potential exists for anything to happen, including cardiac arrests.
