How do you like the job I hope one day to be one but Im not sure yet?

I love my job. I look forward to going to work and I, for the most part, enjoy every second of it.

I'm not a medic yet give it 8 more months, but I work as an EMT and enjoy it. I don't dread going to work at all. Just remember that it's nothing like what you see in movies and on TV.

Call your local agency and see if they allow civilian ride alongs. If they do I would definitely recommend jumping on the opportunity.

I love my job. I love my patients. I get frustrated by the politics.

I love the 9-1-1 aspect of my job. I am however not a fan of IFTs, it's just not my bread and butter.

I've been a paramedic for 18 years, an EMT for 15 years before that. If you have a job you truly love, you never have to work a day in your life.

My partner hates the job, her life, and everything about the day.

It brings me down so much working with them. I really do enjoy everything about what I do.

I'm sure it also puts a damper on your day when you make her cry.

Exactly this.

agreed. although I do have some frequent flyers that I am not a fan of. It makees me mad that some urban outdoorsmen/vagrants/bums (whatever you want to call them) know exactly what to say to make me drive RLS through town endangering myself, my partner and the general public because they want a warm place to sleep and a meal. I refuse to let it affect my patient care though.

We run 911 with the rare IFT.

I wish I had stumbled into the job sooner! I was an EMT for 10 years and have been a medic for 2. I love it!

I love everyones explanations... leme sum it up though...

Best, Job, Ever.

/thread... o.o

It's whatever you make of it, some people only use it as a stepping stone to ride a red truck and never want to be on an ambulance again. Some people really enjoyed it then got burnt out and now hate it. some people love everything about it. The last group of people enjoy learning and try and learn something new everyday even if it's transporting the same little old lady from the dialysis that you transport every week. I was telling a friend last week if you're working 911 it can be surreal at times when you're helping someone at 2am inside their bedroom. Anywho I really enjoyed my time.

Edit-I was not a P only a B

I agree with you 100% There aren't many jobs where people trust a complete stranger and let you into their home or personal life to the extent that they do in EMS.

I feel privileged to experience some of the most candid moments of people's lives.

I love my job, have for 15 years now. What I do not care for are the ones who do not; the "burn outs", or my colleagues with piss poor attitudes regarding EMS. Some place, somewhere, is always hiring.

Are you kidding I love being a medic, it's what got me hirred in the first place, and second it's what allows me to make over 100k a year.^_^

I enjoy the heck out of it!

Except, of course, the politics...but whaddaya gonna do?

The best job I can!

I absolutely love being an EMT and being a volunteer. I'm in medic school now and will enjoy it even more. If someone wants to start paying me for something I like, the better for me.

re

Started doing this FT in 1994 and would never consider doing anything else.
