    Starting Paramedic school this summer.

Any advanced EMT's or intermediates here that went through paramedic, I would like to hear from you. I'm an advanced, and I was wondering if advanced or I/88 gave you a good foundation in starting medic. I've got anat. and phys. and starting A&P 2 when I start paramedic.

    Trauma Assessment Assistance

A had a couple of recruits with the same problem only last semester. The first thing you will do no matter the circumstances is have your partner (imaginary or not) take c-spine. If you can wear gloves put them on before you get into the room. You have a 21 yom who fell from the roof while...

    Tornado disaster

It was ironic that I found out, but yes he survived. My mother is one of the charge nurses at a critical care rehab hospital. I was visiting her for lunch one day and she told me about a patient she had who lost his wife in the storm not far from where I lived. He made his stay in rehab public...

    Tornado disaster

I personally had so far rounded up 4 green tags, 2 yellow tags and this guy made red tag number 2. My other red tag was impaled in the right upper quadrant and had to wait on Heavy rescue.

    No Jobs.

I was looking into moving to OKC to work with EMSA. The company I was referring to here is HEMSI in Huntsville, AL

    New business

You could take on some volunteers. Also with PM, I used to work on the ambulances (ratchet and socket not IV and fluids). There's some stuff that you can do yourself in house that will save you a ton of money. Every time a scheduled oil change is due it is imperative you check the following...

    No Jobs.

Depending on what they allow you to top out at. Medics and Emts here make about the same but they top out at 55. That's with a boat load of over time. And i didn't think about it pertaining to medics only. Maybe it would be better to wait two more semesterswhen Im done with medic myself

    No Jobs.

*emailing Emsa* I don't mind moving for work. But they're going to have to meet me in the middle on their interest in hiring me and let me know up front whether it would be in everyone's best interest for me to drive to Oklahoma .

    No Jobs.

Are they still doing that? A friend of mine works for EMSA said they're trying to hire up EMTs and medics left and right. I've been an EMT for a couple of YEARS and just reclassified as an Advanced, no job yet.

Is it normal to be nervous?

Of course it's normal to be nervous. The more you do it though the more confident you will get. Personally I think getting the shaking hand every now and then is perfectly fine(unless I'm starting an IV). It reminds me of why I do this. It's a high stress field of work and each of us are given a...

    New business

I don't mean to be nosy, but everyone runs things differently. Maybe if you provided a little on your budgeting we could all pick at it and see what we could come up with. :) I do know this much, not a single patient can walk...ever

    Dropping like flies...

flight medic "You shall not pass!!" Sounds like med flight here in the Tennessee valley. I want to go slightly off topic and place my ICP bid on about 40

    Tornado disaster

On April 27th I'm quite sure I wasn't the only one on this forum out working. I was assigned to the county rescue doing an initial sweep on our designated grid square. We saw, and triaged several patients while making room for the ambulances to follow us into this nightmare that was our...

    Huntsville, AL EMT-B work

Better have a spotless driving record and a sparkling personality if you want a job at HEMSI. I only say this because they use a third party for hiring now. It's been a little while since a recommendation from one of their seasoned medics could get you a job. HEMSI pay is lacking when you look...

    Running lights vs running hot

Here, it's illegal to use lights without sirens. There's a lesson to be taken from that. It's either a critical patient or it's not. IF IT WERE ME however, I would not be on an event field, sidewalk, or crowded parking lot without lights on if I'm making my way to a patient or making my way out...

    Help choosing medic schools

Calhoun Community College in Alabama about took over the UAB course in emergency medicine when they decided to stop offering it. It's an AAS course, but University of South Alabama I know offers a bachelors. George Washington University offers all the way up to a masters. Also, unless they...

Post the # your test stopped at, and if you Passed/Failed

EMT-B was 70 questions for me. It took about an hour. Advanced EMT isn't CAD yet. 150 questions.

    Extra AEMT training?

That's really what I'm looking for. State of Alabama has nothing available for us at the moment though. I'm hoping in the future they'll let us have intubation, ECG, and cardiac drugs. It would be a big help to smaller agencies as far as personnel goes. It's not so much something I'll be...

What advice would you give to a newly certified EMT?

Well, volunteering is a great way to get experience. Otherwise it's just like getting any other job. Put an application in. And, fyi you should check your local and/or state laws about having lights in your POV. Where I live volunteers are allowed to have lights in their cars but can only use...
