    Going paperless?

Thank you all for the great feedback! Thank you everyone! I have been running the demo for NarrativePro and it seems to fit in nicely with what we need right now. The real task now seems to be just getting everyone to agree on something. We need a therapy session to discuss each others...

    Transmitting 12 leads

I work on the western slope and the 12lead interpretation is added as a criteria for getting a cath lab activation. They will only put out an alert if the Pt isn't symptomatic or they don't fit the risk profile. I think in many cases they wait for enzymes to come back before they move forward.

    The Official EMTLIFE Introduction Thread

Hello everyone I have posted a few times and I figure its time to introduce myself. I'm a 33 Y/O M with a wife and a couple of cats, I live in Colorado, close to ski country. I've been working EMS for about seven years, five as an EMT-B and going on two as a EMT-P. I currently work for a...

    Fire-based EMS vs EMTs?

Thank you for that insight. I am in the trenches of an agency that is quite hostile to the EMS division, namely the ones who actually care about the job. When there is more interest in fire, the cause of ALS takes the backseat, many of them think we should only provide BLS care and go back to...

    reversal agents

Wouldn't it be more safe to just shut off the drip till the pressor effect subsides then readjust the titration for beta 1?

    Going paperless?

We operate a 2 man ALS crew one out of four stations and run about 600-700 calls a year. Real small. The problem is that we are looking at a merge with another rural department soon and they are moving forward with paperless. Its one of those fire versus ems challenges, not to mention the...

    Going paperless?

Yeah, I used that one a bit at the last agency I worked for. I really liked it but after looking at the price tag it is like the mercedes and we are budgeted for a honda. Thanks for the reply though.

    Going paperless?

Thanks, I've been hearing that alot. The motivation is coming more from our physician advisor and the hospital since they went onlline and basically they see our paper reports as a liability. I would just like to move in that direction if not very slowly till we can purchase a real tablet based...

    Acls and Pals classes online

I took a PALS class earlier in the year for part of my paramedic recert. The "class" was very brief and completely oriented around the written test. Be careful, AHA guidelines state that you need a practical exam as well and while the online class is cheaper, usually doesn't offer the practical...

    Going paperless?

Does anyone have a good system for a small department to get a startup on tablet PCR reporting? We have been through afew options but the startup costs are prohibitive.

    Dreams/Nightmares about Work

False Start I have fairly lucid dreams about work but the ones I rememeber are when I'm woken up to a page or the dream of a page. On more than a few occasions, I'll pop up, get ready, go out to the rig just to realize nothing happened. After a few minutes, a real page would go out and I was...

    Volunteer Paramedic?

I can appreciate what you are saying about experience. I was pretty much fed to the wolves in a combined department after having gotten used to working at a career department. Very different animal.

    Spinal Immobilization or Not ?

Backboards are bad. If your system gives you any leniancy, consider a more humane approach to immobilizing. Our system utilizes a vacuum type mattress that does the job fine without leaving nasty side effects like pressure sores and decreased circulation. I mean really? Have you ever spent more...

    Volunteer Paramedic?

For what it's worth, I volunteered for awhile after I became a paramedic. My situation was looking grim for getting hired on where I was living but I quickly realized how important it was to get out there and keep running calls. I didn't have anything lucrative going on as far as another career...
