Hello fellow medics,
I graduated almost 2 years ago and now have finally finished all my requirements of the National Registry, Ambulance Drivers License, 3rd background, etc... I'm very eager to start my career as an EMT-B, but I don't know where to begin. Normally I would think to just fill out applications, turn them in and see if I get an interview. But, I feel this is not the way to go... I am seeking advice on how to go about the best way to get my first employment with an ambulance company. I would love to work directly under a paramedic on an ALS unit to get the most experience, but I don't mind putting my time in doing patient transport.... Please give me some input and direct me in the right directions.

Thanks in advance,

Sacha

If you know the companies you might like to work for, that's a good place to start. And even if the application process has you completing everything online, don't hesitate to visit the station and actually speak to someone in person. I was offered the first job I applied for, and I think part of that success was taking the time to physically go to the headquarters. Also, some companies have an employment open house once a month, so do your research.

Best of luck!

Since you mention an ADL, I'm assuming you're in CA. If so, apply at any and all companies in your area. CA is oversaturated with EMS providers of all levels (as are most states with EMT-Bs)
