I know I’m late to the party but when I was speccing vents, the Hamilton was the front runner. Supposedly their ASV mode is a game changer and essentially self adjusts to the patient. I did reach out to the local helicopter service who is using them and they confirmed ASV wasn’t just a gimmick, with the caveat that novice users can quickly get behind the ventilator if they don’t train on them.

I work with a metro ALS department and we use the Zoll Zvent. We only use it for CPAP and mechanical ventilation in ROSC but we are very limited as to what we are allowed to change on the settings so I am not too sure about its real capabilities. I will say for mechanical vent it works great. CPAP...not so much. Our patients often struggle while trying to trigger it and absolutely hate it. I guess it just depends on your needs.

What do you mean your patients have trouble triggering it? There isn’t anything to trigger on CPAP

Pressure set too high? Do you mean BiPAP? Patients can get a sense of 'drowning' because of the continual inspiratory flow and inability to completely exhale. Freaks some people out, especially when they're in distress already and maybe disoriented by hypoxia and/or hypercapnia.

Given the "inability to trigger it" sounds more like problems with BiPAP. CPAP doesn't require triggering... as you well know.
