My friend (an emt i work with) received a summary offense citation for underage drinking last weekend (equivalent to a speeding ticket legally). Our boss told him he has to report it to the DOH and that his ability to drive an ambulance will be suspended for 2 years. He's freaking out b/c he thinks he won't be able to work again. We took a look at the reporting form and it only talks about reporting felonys and misdemeanors, neither of which this citation is. Can someone shed some light on this issue?

Respectfully,
Rob

Rob--

First, we don't offer or provide legal advice here. If that's what you're looking for, retain an attorney. Each state differs, and frankly, we can't direct you towards the right resources unless you tell us where you (and your friend) are from.

No matter who signs your paycheck, EMTs are generally seen as public servants, and contact with law enforcement is generally not seen favorably-- at some point, we need to hold ourselves to a higher standard, or nobody else will. Consider this in the future when drinking underage, or doing so in a way that you got caught...

How did your boss find out? Now it seems like reporting it is a condition of contiued employment even if your not legally required to.

Too close to seeking legal advice. Thread closed.
