There's a series called 'Trauma' about some EMTs with the San Fransisco Fire Department. It only lasted one season but from what I've seen it's pretty realistic and definitely a good show. Anybody else watch it? You can find it on Hulu or Netflix.

I thought it was an alright show. I wouldn't call it realistic though...

It's so incredibly unrealistic that I'm actually not sure if you're serious. However, it was actually a pretty good show, providing that you watch it as a comedy rather than a drama :p

I'm actually watching an episode of it right now. She just "RSI'd" someone, and I've been trying to figure out what the one drug she used was...

It's been discussed in several threads on here before. Like Grey's Anatomy, it was more soap opera than anything else (although I never took note of anyone putting a stethoscope in backwards like they do ALL THE TIME on Grey's). Trauma took liberal creative license with reality, and only really showed what we might consider realistic calls/days when it suited them - usually to illustrate boredom or provide a 'quiet' call where the characters could continue their discussions about who was sleeping with who. Otherwise, it was all snipers/explosions/sinking ships all the time. Here and there you could catch some snippets of real medicine, but obviously that wasn't the focus. It was kind of the opposite of Law & Order - for years, L&O kept the personal lives of the characters almost completely off the show, to focus on the 9-to-5 aspects of making/trying a case. Trauma seemed like it would have liked to keep the job (and really, they could have just as easily been cops, firefighters, doctors, or even casino dealers, and the show wouldn't have changed overly much) off the show as much as possible, except when they needed some good footage for the "Next week on Trauma" teasers. Nothing like a good old "Don't you die on me!"

You're better off finding Mother, Jugs, and Speed or Bringing Out the Dead.

They did get one thing right - the prevalence of Monster/RockStar/etc type energy drinks. I swear, some of the members of our FD would probably be willing to take half their pay in the form of discounted cases of Monster.

"trauma" actually imporved a little after its first cancellation. They retooled it a bit, did some character development and reduced the "creative license" to an extent....heck, at least Rabbit didn't do a field craniostomy with a drill from a fire truck and they got rid of the "Naughty Nancy" character to make her a little less of a slut.

At first, it sucked so badly I watched it only because it was like a train wreck and I couldn't take my eyes off it.

Near the end...I could actually tolerate it and was even a little disappointed to see it go.

I liked the characters, but everything else was way off. I can't say much about Grey's Anatomy, since I'm totally hooked. I kinda wish they hadn't cancelled Trauma, I liked Rabbit, something about the jumpsuit....

Bringing Out The Dead was a different movie. Then again so was Mother, Juggs and Speed... I think Nicolas Cage did a very good job portraying a burnout paramedic. I can't say that either was entirely realistic... ;) but they're definitely classics!

In my station I've only ever seen ONE can of Monster (and none of the other brands). And that was by a newbie volunteer.

Same here, and I saw it today, everybody else pretty much just drinks coffee.

Energy drinks seem to be the norm around here. I was up to 4/day for a while. Cut back to nothing, and now I have one occasionally.
