Textbooks here! :)

So I finally ordered my textbooks Thursday and received them Friday afternoon. Very quick delivery. I even bought all the recommended ones to for the study of the exam in the end. (Recommended NOT Required books) So there was 5 in total. 3 Required.

I started to study chapter 1 in the AAOS 9th ED. Emergency care of the sick and injured. and answer the questions in my workbook all in my head to get a jump start on learning and because I have alot of free time till school starts. I wanted to know if this is a good idea or should I just wait, because maybe the instructor has a system that works best. IDK. But I started to write down the end of chapter vocabulary and writing them over and over till I knew them in my head without having to look in the book. Along with there definitions etc. Even going on EMTb.com and studying the flash cards for the chapter review and the questions. I just want to make sure this is a good idea or bad idea.

carry on. But do yourself another favor. Buy a paramedic text and compare the two, before school. When it comes to school time, do your assigned reading, but then look into the same sections of your paramedic text when you are doing your "extra" studying.

Don't work ahead too far. This was the textbook we used in my EMT-IV program. Go ahead and learn EMS Law and HIPAA and BSI/PPE.. maybe touch a little bit on anatomy a little bit.

That's the book we used for my hybrid/online (self taught essentially) course, and you have my sympathy. The entire class truly hated the AAOS test bank. We almost had a mutiny a couple of times when reviewing tests and we literally had instructors tell us (paraphrasing) "Yes ... the test answer contradicts the text but we can't do anything about it." Started with 24 and graduated 6. That said, however ...

Six of us, including my wife (an RN) busted our butts and passed the course and we ain't special. And the emtb.com material was a help, for sure. We bought the study guide in electronic format from emtb.com, as well. In fact, the study guide was what I used to pass the final. You're obviously highly motivated and eager. You'll do fine.

As mentioned, if I was going to get ahead of the game I would read the whole thing if I had time, or if I didn't have time I would study the first two chapters closely and all the anatomy.

Sorry for misunderstanding if this is the wrong question to ask, do you know what paramedic textbook your referring to to compare?

Glad I can finally know what some of this means now, when reading these forums, ive been; I guess you call it, deciphering some of these aberration that I see on here in some of the Threads. Thank you, will do.

The school i will be going to uses the Mosby's paramedic text.

Most of the people that I respect on this site will tell you to get the 5 part brady series.

Medic Rob has a good point about not getting too far ahead, but if you've read your emt-b book cover to cover, i don't think it's too soon to learn what is to come.

Thanks for the reply, Iam glad to hear that ive got a great textbook filled with alot of useful info, Iam impressed with it as I am reading it now and throughout my days. I wasnt aware that other classes teach off a different text? I thought everyone would use the same (AAOS)I would love to read the whole thing before class, but to be able to read and understand and meditate on what iam reading. I would be happy to get half way through. I have been reading some chapters twice along with jumping back chapters previously reading and doing the vocabulary checks again, I just cant wait to actually apply what I learn on the field though. I think iam more afraid of looking like "just another EMT-B". Iam sure there will be alot of eyes on me. I know iam defiantly up this responsibility. Maybe the more I know, the less of a lashing I will get from people above me. heh. Just take it, till its my turn much later on.
