Questions for those that are familiar with or work for Rural Metro in SD and San luis Ambulance in SLO.

I will be applying to both in the next week or two. I have contacted HR for both companies and they are accepting applications but are not hiring until July.

Rural Metro: are the shifts 12s or 24s? both? system status or are you in stations? average number of IFTs? pay range? available OT?

San Luis: number of calls usually? pay range? 24s or 48s? average IFTs? encourage moving on to FD?

I called both AMR in Riverside and San bernidino and they are not hiring. Id like to stay some where coastal if possible, but does anyone else know companies that are hiring?

I live in ventura county and want to move (been here my whole life) so Id rather not work for AMR here, Gold Coast, or Lifeline.

thanks for the help

anyone with anything?

Hey,

I really wanted to work for R/M after medic school. I graduated in 10/08 and I called RM, I was given many different dates when they would be hiring again. I've called multiple times since and still couldn't get a straight answer. I have heard that it is very difficult to get hired there if you were not an EMT for them. AMR in RivCo and SbCo should be hiring soon as there have been many open shifts for medics. If you don't want to wait take a look at Hall Ambulance in Bakersfield. There are only 3 ALS engines in the county. I worked there for awhile before AMR here opened up, it is an awesome system where you run the show. Good Luck!

thanks for the response!
i was thinking about Hall, as I have many friends working there.
are you currently in Riverside AMR? if so do you mind posting up your opinion on the pay? shifts? work in general?
thanks again

San Luis Ambulance is great. I know a few people there and am regularly up there. They actually just had a terrible accident, one of their EMTs died in the line of duty last week on the Dunes. Very sad as he was soon to be a student in my paramedic school. His parents have set up a paramedic scholarship to put someone through medic school in his honor, if anyone is interested in donating please PM me.
