NJ EMT Driving Record Question

I live in NJ, and I have been applying to jobs all over the state. Last week i got a call back form a pretty big ambu company.

They asked for a drivers abstract. It showed that I had a suspension about a year ago for not appearing for court. So i was declined further consideration.
It had nothing to do with driving at all, in fact I have never gotten into a fender bender, i have never gotten a speeding ticket what so ever.

Is this what it is going to be like anywhere i go. They said i need a "clean" driving record for three years. I mean, its not Like i have a DUI or anything.

will it be like this at every job that I apply to?

Am I totally screwed in the A?

Ambu??? As in BVM... :)

Why would I hire you when you do not show for court? Why would I hire you when you take a suspension rather than going to court for whatever reason it was?

A driver's abstract not only shows if you are a safe or lucky driver, it also is a direct reflection of your character. It says so much more than simply whether or not you have a heavy foot or know how to brake and swerve.

If any of this on your report is inaccurate, why have you not taken steps to rectify it? Why have you been content with it being on your record?

See? Another character indicator...you asked.

Being that I pay high enough rates for insurance for those with clean record and having plenty of people willing to work, i would never hire someone with anything a but clean record.

i didn't need a personal attack. you have no clue as to why I missed court.

I never got a summons, and as soon as i found out, i took every step to rectify the situation. There are many more details to add, but not important enough for me to blast on the internet

However

if you want to bash my character, go ahead. but remember that you do not know me.

man, I am glad to see that EMS personal help each other out, and not attack other people for no reason. oh wait...

Re read my response....

I answered from the employer's perspective...these are questions they all will ask either to your face or in their head and then they will pass you by.

EMTs are a dime a dozen and there are plenty with clean records. If you don't want the truth or simply do not like the answer cause it dampens your spirits, then tough...move on.

As someone who does hiring quite often, these are all the things I would ask myself. I do not have to know you to make assumptions, especially when it comes to hiring. This is what they will do as well...

so basically your saying that i am pretty much screwed and I should find a new job path.

but you had to do so in a way that makes me feel like a total failure.

great. glad to see a place where i can get answers

Your attitude is what is failing you.

I did not say anything about a new job path.

I stated the questions I would ask when reviewing your history. Now that you know these, can you fix any of them? Can you provide explanations? (Not to me, but to the employer) If you can, you need to provide those right up front without prompting, be proactive.

I also stated that being an EMT is in itself nothing special as there are plenty to choose from with the types of records we like to see.

Use the SEARCH tab and find threads about many other jobs one can do as an EMT which will provide you with income while you wait for your record to clear. Go to school, take the next step...make yourself more valuable. A paramedic with a record is sometimes favored over an EMT with one. Again, all this will take time and you will develop a better attitude and your record will improve.

And finally, think about this...do any of my responses look like half *** attempts to stir up some random person on the internet....OR do they look like something that was well thought out, well written, addressed your situation and tried to help?

I took time out of MY day to address your thread. Am I special? No, but I gave up time valuable to me only to be :censored::censored::censored::censored::censored: slapped and discounted by ungratefulness.

Next time, I will just pass on by and not offer anything...

Unless you can fix your record, or bring some type of experience to that table that can't be easily found, yes you're pretty much screwed for the next 3 years till it goes off your record.

Maybe you could find work as an ER tech while you wait for that to fall off your record (not sure what is required to be an ER tech in NJ, but it's something to look into). Good luck.

Robinson: People on this forum are very Straight forward, and dont like to sugar coat things.. take it with a grain of salt :-)

just be Glad Ridryder didnt reply.. he'd make you cry :-)))))

If i was you, id do anything u can to get it off your record... or just call the companies your applying and explain your situation and see if they would be ok with it

try what waydizzy said about working in an ER room, or any hopsital that has an open position..

other than that good luck

if any of the suggesions made dont work

go back to school and get more traning as a Medic or RN

i didn't need a personal attack. you have no clue as to why I missed court.
this is true, and neither does your potential employer

I don't buy it. they send you a note to the address on your license (to appear in court), and then a notification that your license is suspended. they usually don't suspend your license on a random whim.
if you want to bash my character, go ahead. but remember that you do not know me.
ah the famous "you don't know me" that always makes me think of Jerry Springer.
man, I am glad to see that EMS personal help each other out, and not attack other people for no reason. oh wait...
oh please, grow up.

you don't like the answers? too bad. you asked a question, and didn't get the answer you were looking for. oh well, life sucks.

I don't know why your license was suspended. You say it was because you failed to appear in court, and it was totally unavoidable. how about you take some responsibility for your own actions (ie, not appearing in court for whatever offense you were charged with), admit you screwed up, and deal with the consequences?

lots of EMTs in NJ, many with clean records. many experienced EMTs in NJ, some with checkered records. you are a newbie EMT with a driving suspension on his record. with all the other choices, if you were a hiring manager, what would you do?

you can call companies and try to explain your situation, but looking at the situation from their point of view, who would you hire? the person with damaged history and no experience, or the clean record and no experience?

I fail to see a personal attack, and in fact only notice several times where you got help/answers.
Maybe it's not your driving record holding you back, check your attitude

guys, Thank you for all of your answers. i admit that i may have been upset. But I have done the ER Tech Route. I did it for years. and I want to go to medic school. But they say that I need time on a rig. 2 years on a rig. and i ... just don't find it fair.

I know , I know life isn't fair. But i am in no position to wait 5 years to go to medic school. and I don't have a job. and it is creating a very stressful situation.

I really didn't get a summons. Maybe due to the fact that the mail got messed up or what ever. that does happen.

And i did take responsibility and as soon as i found out I went to the courts and took care of the situation. That was me taking care of it as soon as possible in my book.

thank you for all of your answers,a nd i am sorry if i seemed hostile at any point, but. I am having a really hard time right now, and i am just stressed fixing it.

You may be able to throw yourself on the mercy of the court...with enough begging and the right judge, they may take it off your record. Couldn't hurt to try...that's what I would do. :)

really. Like if i opted for some community service or driving school?! would that work?

Totally depends on who you end up seeing. It's a possibility...I've seen people get worse things expunged from their records. Give it a shot!

It sure couldnt hurt, and yes mistakes do happen and for whatever reason notices to appear in court either dont show up at all or show up after the court date. I have seen it happen several times.
