What questions do YOU ask your new partners to keep things alive and not dry during a 24 hr shift?

Usually my first question is what do you want to get for lunch?

Nothing! Oh, wait? We aren't suppose to answer that here. :p

I usually just introduce myself. During down time, I might ask them how long they have been working here and if they plan on doing anything beyond what they are doing. If I see something I like eg food place or something interesting, I'll point it out. For the most part, I consider silence therapeutic too. Don't need to talk the entire shift.

I honestly do not like the whole "tell me about yourself" as a intro. But it's a good ice breaker.
I usually ask about experience and goals (fire, nursing, medic) ect.
I also don't mind silence and just listening to the radio

When training first timers, I usually tell them that the FNGs buy lunch.
