G'day all,

I'm a newbie from MN. I'm currently a first responder and looking to be an EMT-I by the spring next year.

I'm looking to connect with others in my area and abroad to learn some new tricks and to just shoot the breeze.

welcome; not from your area; but always willing to shoot the breeze (better off to do it by private message though). and I am always willing to help with tricks and ideas.

Welcome!

I worked out in MN a few years ago. Do they still do EMT-I? When I was there it was hard to find a class. Allina seemed to be the only service utilizing EMT-Is

My program advisor is formerly Allina... I am attending a local technical college to attain my EMT-I and I might decide to go to another technical college to get the EMT-P, depending on how well I perform in the EMT-B,I phases at my current school.

North Memorial, Gold Cross and Life Link utilize EMT B & I's in the rural settings. I think it is per the MM Emergency Medical Services Review Board the only EMT-P's can serve in trauma ambulances in the Twin Cities metro. EMT-B,I's can be utilized in Fire, transport, and any where else BUT trauma.

My career focus is law enforcement, I think it is beneficial to be at least an EMT-B. MN requires all police to be first responders and several departments prefer more. I know of one department that their police officers are also paramedics.

There is no real practical need for me to actually attain any EMS certification beyond first responder for my career path. I decided to go for the EMT because I aced my first responder certification and I thought it would be a good plus on my resume and an alternative path.

I had no idea MN was utilizing EMT-Is that much, That's awesome. Is it I85 or I99?

I know that the town I first volunteered in as an EMT-B in SE MN required all of its police to be EMT-Basic. It was great to have on scene. We were a pretty low volume system, so when a call came out, you got everyone.

I think it varies depending on the school who teaches you. Most either just go for the B or the Paramedic. Some of us go for the I. I will be completing the '85.

Welcome!! I worked up in the St. Cloud, MN area, during the 90's. Now I work in western Wisconsin. If you want to chat, send me a note. Good Luck and Have a great and fun future.

That brings up an interesting question: I know WI and MN differ in policing, how do they differ in EMS in your opinion?

Do you know of any good EMS services? Ones to avoid??
