If you don't take a refresher and sucessfully renew your EMT-B certification before it expires, you completely lose it and have to start from square 1 here in massachusetts. I'm assuming most other states are like this. Have any of you ever lost your certification? Isn't this really frustrating and do you agree with it?

Is it frustrating taking the class over again. Sure.
Do I agree with it? Absolutely.

Part of being a professional is keeping your certifications up to date.

Ditto, but no, I've never let one of my certs expire.

One of the biggest mistakes I ever made was losing my NR EMT-B.

If it weren't for the online classes I have, I would have lost my EMT-B too.

Take the courses far before you need them. Stuff happens, and it's not worth losing a cert!

Texas does not require a refresher anymore...............

Washington doesn't require a refresher unless you fail to maintain your ongoing OTEP education. It's a wierd system here.

PA is the same...24 hours of Con-Ed over 3 years.
If you don't do your con-ed, they usually run a "refresher" class at the end of the regular EMT class

I got advise a long time ago that has served me well. When you get your certification or recert go and sign up for the next refresher. If you do it this way you can repeat a refresher for CEs.

Some guy in my EMT-B class didn't renew his EMT-P cert, which is why he's in my class right now.
