Hello,

EMS has always interested me. I'm currently an actor.

I'm considering enrolling in an EMT-B course that is starting up soon. I currently live in Manhattan, NYC..and my training course is located in Brooklyn.

This is a question for all my New Yorkers...if there are any...How is the job outlook here in the city for EMT-B?

Its okay but not great. Expect low pay. You may get a good schedule and you may not.

Do not do it for the money.

You might have to consider getting a position as an unpaid EMT to have any position as an EMT.

Be aware there are a lot of people with EMT-b cards who do not volly and have not been hired at all.

If I were in your shoes, I would join a NYC volly as a driver or dispatcher and then get them to pay for the EMT-b class. It will enhance your ability to get to the most out of the class if you are in a volly for many reasons.

Also call up FDNY and get your name on the provisional hire list if they are taking names still.

If I could do it all over I would do that.

Thank you. What are some NYC volly agencies? I'm currently living in Manhattan, but I might be moving to Queens some time next year. I'm having some difficulty finding this info on my own...
