I'm trying to obtain a Texas paramedic license. I'm currently an Illinois paramedic. I know that I need to take the national registry. I was wondering what other steps I need to take besides applying for the license after. I was reading the Texas Dept of health’s page and this section:

"To gain paramedic licensure status, you are required to follow the steps above and submit proof of either a two-year EMS degree or a four-year degree in any field. "

Does anyone know if you have to have a degree or can you just take the national and apply?

Thanks, Mike

The degree requirement is for Licensed Paramedic. To gain certification as a paramedic I believe you just need to be Nationally Registered. In TX the two are considered different levels, but from what I've seen looked at the same for hiring purposes.
As far as TX DSHS is concerned the levels are: ECA, EMT-B, EMT-I, EMT-P, LP

To be a certified Paramedic, you send in your NREMT, money, and application.

If you want to be a Licensed Paramedic, you need to show proof of an AAS-EMS or a bachelors degree... and pay more money.

If you are already a Paramedic you might not need to get NR to transfer to Texas.
