I just got out of the hospital friday after spending 11 days in there. Only to find out that I am going yo have to repeat my semester of ems classes. I have only missed 5 1/2days. I have the grades but there is a rule I missed more than 20 hours.

Glad that you are out of the hospital! :) Is there a way that you can appeal the decision? Being hospitalized was something beyond your control, and given your record they should have provisions for unusual situations. We had a similar situation but the student was given exception because of unusual situations. They may have had to make up a few sessions but not repeat the term. Best luck and hope that it works out :)

With EMT classes being the way they are, missing only three classes can be enough in some programs for you to miss your 120 hour requirement. You will not be able to appeal the decision because it is required by the state to have a certain amount of hours. Even if the school was willing to help you out, the state will not let you certify.

You are no failure. Look into EMT programs at other schools or even private stand alone programs in your area. Maybe one will start before the next class at your school. Remember, brick walls are only there to remind us how badly we want something.

There was no failure in your predicament, rather an inability to complete or meet the requirements due to unforeseen predicaments. It is no one's fault, yours or the schools.

I agree, as a teacher I am sometimes torn when such an occurrence happens but it would not be fair to allow one to "make up" for such lost days if everyone else could not be able too. Twenty hours in the curriculum is a lot of material that was covered as well as skills. It would be very hard to make up lost sessions.

I would discuss it with the instructor and see if the institution might give you an incomplete due to the circumstances and allow you to re-enter next semester maybe without charge or reduction in costs. Glad you are okay and also allow your body to heal too.

Good luck,

If this is something you really want to do, talk to your instructors, as R/r has suggested. Ask for the incomplete as opposed to a failing grade and go back next semester. Being admitted to the hospital was something beyond your control, and has no implications on your ability to succeed in the class. Good luck!

This wasn't a 'failure' but simply life doing what life does. Just think, when you take the class the next time, the classes you have already taken will be much easier.

Ditto Bossy Cow

See about some sort of pro-rate or refund on fees. Can't hurt to ask, confidently but deferentialy.

I'm feeling better about things now.

I finisihed the semester, saving my algebra with a 79.3. I actually missed more alegbra classes than I did ems classes. I'm sorry for the other day. I had just found out. I don't mind repeating it in fact I feell it will do me good. However, since I had the grade I don't think should get an F but an I instead so it doesn't hurt my gpa. I know my gpa wasn't great from the first semester but was a 3.3855 which was a 96,95,86,B,C. Now that will all be for nothing.
I'l alwalys have 3 F in my gpa won't I?

Well, yes,or maybe, or who will care?

1. YES: if things go ahead as is, sure. Skip to #3.
2. MAYBE: see if you can expunge the offending grades by retaking them. In any event, get a letter from your MD on letterhead about your illness. While porbably no one will want to see it, it may make you feel better knowing that you vould NOT do it on the first swing. Go to #3.
3.WHO WILL CARE?: once you have your certificate or degree, unless you are competing for postgrad entry to Standford or something, no one will care. You will have chinned the bar, crossed the finish line, walked the graduation que and received your sheepskin. Go for it! (And ask about #2, might make you feel better).;)
