I am 19 years old living in NY, and have signed up for an EMT - B class. I want to work in Washington or Oregon as a paramedic, but hear the process isn't as easy as it should be. The original plan was for me to complete this class, find work as an EMT for a year, then sign up for paramedic school in one of those States. I've seen some of the reciprocity procedures for WA but still don't know how easy it would be trying to sign up for school there while getting certification from the state and everything else. I also don't know how the job market compares over there to NY.
How easy is it to move to those states with only an EMTB and get reciprocity? What about with a paramedic license? How hard would it be to get a job out there if I only had a NY paramedic certification? I also can't find many paramedic only programs, especially in Oregon where they seem to lump both together.
Also do you need all those shots to work as an EMT or sign up for a class? I see it in most of the paramedic prerequisites but not anywhere else. Sorry if this wasn't cohesive or organized at all, but thanks to anyone that helps and I'll probably have more questions as time goes on.
