OK- the only reason why I'm asking this is because this process will -probably- take some time.

I was wondering who has glasses and how you deal with regular glasses and goggles? My thought is to keep my own glasses on regular calls, Rx goggles for those calls who need it (on my person).

Contacts and PRK (not a candidate for LASIK) are not an option.

I'm guessing as you size up the scene and determine MOI, you'd probably get a good indication of if goggles were needed?

Like I said- the reason why I'm asking is because getting Rx goggles (and I need new glasses anyway because mine just happened to break the other day- of course) are going to take some time to get because I have to now get 2 pairs.

I wear contacts when working. Can't say I ever use goggles as a first responder (I wear ballic glasses cinched around my head, any further need = face shield).

That said, in labs at school where goggles are worn (same/similar standards) I have no trouble wearing them over a pair of Oakley Wingspan or Socket 2.0. Very lower profile and flat frame. These of course are working with big bulky bottom-shelf lab goggles, something I would get a hoot out of seeing someone where in the field.

I have seen folks with sleek Rx goggles, no shame.

Personally, never worn goggles... With bigger lenses on glasses coming back in style, I just wear those which provide pretty decent splash protection, and like Grimes said, any further need = face shield.

I have a pair of Rx lenses for my Oakley safety glasses.

In most cases you really don't need them. I only wear glasses when there's a splash risk (intubating) or when I'm inside a motor vehicle at a wreck. And my helmet has ESS goggles... So, there's that.

There really is not much need to be wearing goggles. Glasses do the trick most of the time and are much easier to keep around. Getting a pair of prescription safety glasses shouldn't be too tough.

While not often needed, I really do not relish getting anything in my eyes so I keep a pair of nice (oakley half jackets) on me so that'll actually have them when I need them and wear them.

Thanks guys. My glasses are small-ish. If I can find some cheap goggles Ill get them. My Instructor has invited me to do a "ride along" (very small call volume- maybe 350 a year- all volunteer). So cheap is good. You never know what farmers get into.

I don't know. They were covered 100% by my vision plan. I got a script from my doc saying they were required for work and they were covered.

I wonder if my *****y Eye Insurance would cover them! I do need new regular glasses though since my new ones broke and I'm wearing old ones (from before I got the new ones).

Never hurts to ask, right?

I wear glasses in the field, the only problem I've dealt with is I have to take them off when doing chest compressions. I had to take them off for goggles to but that was only when I was doing wildland firefighting not so much on the EMS side, but there are safety glasses that will actually fit over your proscription glasses, don't know if tried them or not, I personally haven't.

Now that I have been working for private ambulances I haven't really had any big problems with wearing glasses and like tigger said your glasses most often do the trick for safety glasses.

Forget goggles. Go on Oakley SI and get a pair of glasses with clear lenses.

If it's an option, LASIK is fantastic. I had it done a few years ago and it was the best decision I ever made.

But on days I forgot to wear contacts to work- I dont wear goggles. The glasses themselves seem to do a fine enough job. But these are the style of glasses I wear ( not a pic of me) so they provide decent coverage.

Yeah, it sucks. I can't wear contacts. I'm looking into Rx protective eyewear.

Keep a pair of safety glasses on your head. If you need them then just toss your prescription ones in your pocket and put the safety glasses on. Leaving them in the truck is just asking for trouble.

Yup. I keep them on the back of my neck folded in my collar.

I wear contacts. Only time I've ever worn goggles was during a massive wind/dust storm when I was on a traffic accident but they're the ones that are attached to my helmet.

I wear clear Oakley style safety glasses on cardiac arrests, when I Intubate and on traffic accidents. I'll throw them on if I'm going on a shooting or stabbing as well just because of the potential for a lot of blood.
