Hey guys, we're running an essay contest on Confessions of an EMS Newbie. First prize is an all-expense-paid trip to EMS World Expo in Las Vegas, an ER shift shadowing Dr. Bryan Bledsoe, and an appearance on the EMS Newbie live podcast from the show floor. We have cool prizes for 2nd and 3rd place, too!

Entries are limited to EMS newbies (EMT students or less than 2 years EMS experience), and the submission deadline is midnight, June 1.

I'll have had my basic for two years come August. I'll have to check it out. On another note, if I don't win, could you sign a copy of your book if I mail it with $$ for the return shipping? Either that, or i can send however much money via Paypal for a print copy and shipping.

I stopped being an EMT in 1989. Due to a forced career change 2 years ago, I made my way into Paramedic school. I just finished school last week, and have been running as an EMT-I for a year. Does a born-again newbie count????????

I missed the "2 year" mark by a mere couple of months.



Then again, I only have 1 year as full time... and a couple of months of part time.... hmmmmm *sneaky devious thoughts*

Just a few months. I got my EMT-B certification just before I started EMT-I class. Straight through medic school from there.
 
Sweet. I have been a basic for 4 months lol

And side note:

Reading your book during my shift today. I may or may not of spit pop everywhere laughing at a completely inappropriate time lol.
 
So when you say essay, is that in the traditional format, ie. Open with a thesis statement and follow with supporting paragraphs, or is this more of a free-write style essay? Also, do you consider forums such as this as a form of social media as opposed to only sites like Facebook and Twitter?

No Rob, they were quite clear at doing EMS newbies, not nursing fogies. Everyone knows EMS newbies can't afford to go to Vegas!

You make more sneezing then I make in a year. :P

Any and all social media forms are fair game for discussion, including EMS forums like this one.

The essay does not have to follow a set format. All essays will be judged on a 5 point scoring rubric on content, structure and grammar, style, and bonus points (anything the judges feel merits awarding points for that don't fit in the other 3 categories).
