Just wondering if anyone is going to be at the EMS competition in Omaha,NE this weekend. There are teams from all over the US coming, and thought it would be cool to maybe meet some EMT-lifers there. I am on a team along with several other classmates.

I missed it by 31 years.

Worked with American Ambulance (extinct), and Offutt Crash Rescue (Fire Dept) active duty. Enjoy "The Big O". Which venue?

With Creighton University. Competing as a basic. I am going to have a hard time not thinking like a medic student.
"Lets start a IV, monitor.......um wait, I will ask for ALS:blush:"
:p

I know there is a American Ambulance in omaha, It is with Omaha ambulance. They have two names, don't know why. Might that be the same company?

American Ambulance used to be independently owned (Dennis Hyat).

Our HQ was behind the current McDonalds north of Creighton Univ. where there is now a strip mall at 25th and Cumings. In fact the entire neighborhood was razed and gentrified.
Good luck, hope your weather holds.

Wow, that is where Creighton has the EMS office and class rooms. Right in the plaza behind McDonalds. Many of the student love to frequent the McDonalds. I will have to ask and see if they were bought out or what.
Thanks, we came in third for the class teams.
Good learning experence, scenario was a office shooting. Had a team of three medic students working as BLS. Dispatch informed us that three were down and we will be escorted onto the scene by swat. Ended up with a live bomb that was going to go off in 30 seconds, and 8 pts to treat.
It really neat to mix with the seasoned people and learn from them.

Third out of...naw never mind. I hear you reaper.

Yes Omaha bought out American. American did limos too, and had a contract to provide and drive a neonatal ICU for the area, mostly Children's and University. We also sold caskets to local funeral homes. Not only "cradle to grave", but we'd drive your future parents to the prom, and your mourners to your funeral in a casket we sold to the mortician. We also did body pickups for the coroner and funeral homes, and wheelchair vans. There were three or four bedrooms for crew, and some lived there and covered all the night shifts. Very, er, colorful.

Run like hell and grab 8 body bags!

Body bags or a rake to clean up the mess after the boom.
The way they set it up was intersting. The goal was to see if the teams would beat feet to get out of there once they realized that he scene wasnot safe in addition to other stuff. 8 teams out of 20 blew up. Becuase they did not "run" to the safe zone with the swat dudes after ten mintues of being on scene. If we obeyed the scene safety rule we were in the "safe" zone for 1 minute then the bomb was neutrelized or whatever and we could resume with the scenario. the Bomber/shooter was shot in the head by swat during that time. so that left us 6 pts. since one died while we were in the safe zone. So yeah, it was a little crazy.

Real thing is more like "a lot crazy".

May we never have to participate in a real one.
