Just plastered it on my myspace. Almost got nailed by a guy yesterday that swerved into the median I was waiting in to turn. He was texting of course.

I think Illinois just passed a law making it illegal, Missouri is trying

There was a young girl (seventeen I believe) that died in a roll-over a year or so ago. Her father was an LEO (I'm wanting to say he was state patrol), it was believe the cause was texting. There was a media campaign shortly after conveying the dangers of texting.

EDIT: Found the source http://www.kfvs12.com/Global/story.asp?S=9573338 She was 24, not 17...My mistake

It's sad that it takes the death of a young girl to make people aware of it. You'd think that it would be common sense that taking your eyes off of the road to send a text message is a bad idea.

They say texting and driving is as dangerous as driving under the influence of drugs & or alcohol.

"The study, released in July 2007 and conducted with more than 900 teens from 26 high schools nationwide, revealed that text-messaging while driving is becoming as dangerous as drinking and driving, in terms of inhibiting a teen’s driving abilities.

Yet even while 37 percent of teens rated text messaging while driving as “extremely” or “very” distracting, they continue to send and receive text messaging in their moving vehicles anyway, the study reported."

"In 2007, driver distractions, such as using a cell phone or text messaging, contributed to nearly 1,000 crashes involving 16- and 17-year-old drivers.
Over 60 percent of American teens admit to risky driving, and nearly half of those that admit to risky driving also admit to text messaging behind the wheel.
Each year, 21% of fatal car crashes involving teenagers between the ages of 16 and 19 were the result of cell phone usage. This result has been expected to grow as much as 4% every year.
Almost 50% of all drivers between the ages of 18 and 24 are texting while driving."

Very scary. FWIW, the service I'm going to work with has a zero tolerance policy on cell phones. It's hospital based so that probably has a lot to do with this... but basically we can't be in the halls or the lobby with a cell phone and it has to be either be on silent or off at all times (they prefer off). If we're caught with one while driving a truck it's automatic termination (which is very understandable!!). Imagine if the laws were that strict, as in if you're caught texting while driving they revoke your DL.

Where can I get full video

I am new to the forum. (first post) I am a retired trainer from Emergency Management field. I now vollie as a Basic in a small department in New Mexico.

My Chief has asked me to track down this video. Anyone know where I can find more than the 4 1/2 minutes that is on youtube?

I have been lurking for a while. I appreciate to info shared.
Thanks for any help.

Wow. I love it and I'm going to pass it along. Thanks.

Texting and driving are so stupid when put together. Completely illegal here in VA and is a primary offense.
