Little info on me. 4 years working at McCormick in LaCo, getting tired of this city and want to get out. Most of my family lives in Paso Robles and Atascadero and I think it would be awesome to move up there.

1.) What is the/your general impression of San Luis Ambulance? Is it a decent company to work for? Would you work there again or continue to work there? What are some of the draw backs?

2.) What specifically is the hiring process like? Is there a set list of things they are looking for? Will a fire academy under my belt hurt me or a degree in Fire Science?

3.) Are there any curve balls in the interview I should be aware of?

4.) Lets say I jump through all the hoops and get hired. What can I expect? How do shifts work out for the new guy? I noticed a post stating that once hired I would be part time and have to test to full time. How easy or hard would it be get shifts as a part time employee? How long are the shifts? Is there an opportunity to work 24-48 hour shifts or is it all 12 hour shifts?

5.)What is the starting salary or hourly wage for EMT-B? And how many hours can I hope to pick up as the new guy?

6.) For the station how many crews are usually at a station? Is there kitchen amenities available to be able to cook your own meals?

7.) What is the call volume like for the majority of the county? I know different stations will have different volumes, but I can expect around 10-15 on a 48 at my station. Just wondering what it would be like at SLA.

Thanks for any info you have!!

Slas

Well I'm not going to answer all of your questions, but I will address the general lack of knowledge about SLAS.

San Luis Ambulance is a great company to work for. I've see a lot of other companies and this one is at the top. They treat their employees like humans. They develop a family atmosphere. It's a company that you can make a career at, they will expect some commitment in return.

As an EMT, Fire shouldn't hurt you. As a paramedic they don't like Fire, because they are a company that invests in their people and don't want them leaving for the next best thing.

The job itself is like any other 911 gig, but they have great equipment and stations. They will expect you to work, but its not hard work and most the time fun.

If your an EMT Im guessing they will pick you up part-time and then you have to fight for a full-time spot. But it can be done. As a paramedic they will hire full-time from the get go.

Its not your typical Ambulance company, it is a lot better. They work a lot with ALS Fire on scene, but do most of the transporting solo. If your an EMT get in there and work at going to Cuesta Paramedic Program if thats the path your looking at (if you want a fire job, paramedic is almost a must).

Also, Hall Ambulance is another solid company to work for except for the fact that it is in Bako.
