I haven't heard any more stories lately about people doing the cinnamon challenge but if you were called to a victim who failed and now can't breath, how would you treat it? My thinking is and correct me if I'm wrong but pushing air into them helps how when you could be pushing the cinnamon into the lungs. Sure they get o2 but you're essentially making a bigger problem when it comes to aspiration pneumonia. How can you treat it?

Edit
I'm thinking most of the irritant would be in sinuses and throat so I wouldnt be overly concerned about blowing it further into their lungs. I think this would be something akin to esophageal Spasm?
Damn good question. Ive tried to work that one out in my head a few times after watching people choking on the reality videos after accepting a dare to put a spoonful in their mouths.
Ive come to the conclusion that there is no right answer other than letting darwinism take its course.
On a more serious note though I would most likely be running serial neb'sto combat the bronchoconstriction caused by the irritation
Cinnamon WAS (not anymore!!!!) a great stop leak for old radiators.
Put a spoonful in your Mr Coffee's filter then try to make coffee with cinnamon flavor...it will be all over the counter because it swells and forms a mucilaginous mass.
Ditto in your mouth. It burns so you can't hold it there long enough to salivate it thinner.
Imagine having an anaphylactic reaction with that stuff!
I've read that intubation has been necessary in some of these situations. Might it even be ideal, as it would bypass any remnants of cinnamon still sitting in the upper respiratory tract?
Who better to use RSI drugs on than a stupid teenager? /sarcasm
Never tried the cinnamon one but I did try the saltine one and fail. Came close though.
Unless they are in so much distress just toss a cannula or an NRB on em and leave it alone, titrate their spo2 >90-94 depending on your protocols.
The longer I work the more I realize I want to do as little as necessary. That sounds bad, poorly written. I don't want to use a bazooka if the pea-shooter will work just fine.

Tried it some time back, didn't come close to either success or aspiration pneumonia. I did manage to cough a fine coating of cinnamon over everything, though.
I imagine most people are going to cough or spit the cinnamon out, not inhale much of it, and actual emergencies are going to be vanishingly rare. Besides, we now know a winning strategy. Maybe I'll have to retry it...
