    Cayman Islands EMS

There are 3 stations on the island - one in George Town, which operates out of the public hospital, one in West Bay and one in North Side. I don't know anything about the service in the Brac. It is possible for a US medic to work in the Cayman Islands, and from what I've heard, they're...

    Cayman Islands EMS

Just wondering what it's like really. I've heard some bad things about the management/personnel? Did you work there as an EMT as well?

ems discounts on food and stuff

Top half? :P There's a Dunkin' Donuts around where I live that usually throws in 2 or 3 extra donuts when we come in on the odd occasion. Other than that, the only other place I've ever gotten a discount while working is this little fruit/smoothie stand that does awesome fresh fruit...

    Things left behind.....

My partner once left our entire jump bag at a scene. The funny thing is that one of our friends was at the scene, and once we left, she kept calling him over and over and over, he was getting annoyed since we had a patient in the back and he didn't want to answer the phone in case the patient...

What can I expect in the EMT-B class?

I found the course pretty basic - there aren't any drugs or dosages to memorize (apart from oxygen, nitroglycerin, oral glucose, Epinephrine, assisting patients with MDIs, and some services allow baby aspirin). For the most part, the course is all about life threatening injuries like controlling...

    NREMT vs State Emt

What are some of the differences between the state exam and the NREMT (I'm in Florida)? I've been told that it's just that the NREMT has a practical exam; is this the only major difference?

My old partner used to call firefighters the "water pixies" ^_^

"Does the EMS have a gruge against FFs?"

Actually, before I moved to the US I wasn't aware that the fire services and the EMS were so intricately connected. Where I come from (in the Caribbean/Europe) the fire services and the EMS are two totally separate, independently operated services. In the islands, the fire fighters aren't even...

what do you carry with you at work

Lets see... I've got my trauma shears, pen light, regular writing pen, O2 wrench (on my keychain, so I guess I have that with me no matter where I go ), my stethoscope and a pair of gloves. I always figure that anything else I'd need is in the jump bag anyway...

    Rude/Nasty Partners

Generally, I can't complain about partners - I've gotten pretty lucky I think and had two awesome partners. Just great people to work with, and both have become life long friends, for sure. When my second to last partner left the island, I was paired with a guy from New York. Now, I'm not...

    You did WHAT with THAT?!

My partner and I signed on for our 7am-7pm day shift on a Monday, it had been relatively slow for most of the day. We decided to go for some lunch, and of course, as soon as we sit down - we got a call. Call came in from 911 dispatch as 'a patient who was bleeding profusely'. Thinking this...

    why did you join ems?

I actually got placed in the EMS where I live as a 16 year old high school student on a work experience program. Spent a week doing calls and absolutely loved it - now I'm getting ready to take my NREMT.
