    Alberta Job Employment Rates

Hey IS, Well it sounds like you friend is half correct. Statistically we should be seeing larger or corporate positions when calculating these statistics though and traditionally EMS staff in Alberta do not have the same pension opportunities as civil servants or long time corporate employees...

    Alberta Job Employment Rates

Well IS, I'm an Ops Manager for a service in Alberta and I can tell you that hiring is slow right now in public service. Things seem to be picking up on the industrial side of things with some of the steps Ediot Stelmach has taken to encourage oil & gas exploration but certainly not to the...

Best EMT School in Calgary Alberta?

You guys might be wise to ask AHASTI about their post graduation employment rates. Someone close to me recently graduated from an EMT class there and less than half the class is employed in EMS a year later. Food for thought.

    What happened to AHASTI?

I am a past graduate of AHASTI and there was a time that I had nothing but great things to say about my former school. Now from interactions with more recent graduates I find myself wondering what happened? It seems that now the school is under new ownership, a number of managers jumped ship...

    Former High School Bully

You're not kidding! I've worked in a few industries and there are more drama queens and whiny little girls working in this industry than any other I've ever seen. See whining about bullying for reference...

Best School in Alberta to learn?

I find that the past students with complaints about AHASTI were unprepared for the workload (it is an accelerated program), had poor study habits, or had unrealistic expectations of themslves or the program. All students are well warned before they begin the program that it is extremely intense...

    Attitudes torwards patients

Actually yes. In services that charge for treatment, unpaid billing is still a key element to how your wages and income are calculated and not in the way that you suggest. Unpaid billing is charged off and used as a loss against the gross income of the service during their year end which reduces...

    Attitudes torwards patients

The thing we have to remember is our frequent callers/situations are the ones that ultimately pay the bills. My medics get paid because we get paid and we get paid by the people who call us (or their insurance companies). So next time a patient that you think is non critical is getting to you...

    Canada, eh?

Try Caroline Ambulance service, they hire EMRs. I think the daily stipend is $110/day. It's alright to get some experience.

Get real, there was no such insinuation. Caroline Kennedy prior to removing her name from the new york senate race displayed the small butterfly tattoo'd on the inside of her arm: “I’m thinking about getting a tat of Reagan’s face,” said Congressman John Shadegg, “Nothing too outlandish...

Fascinating, yet I'm an ops manager in a medium service and don't even remotely share the above opinions. Good to see things are changing. BTW some senators/congressmen do have body art, especially those who have completed military service. As for regarding patient care as a priority, hey thats...

I'm thankful that my service would never allow someone with this narrow minded intolerant view of people to end up in ANY kind of supervisory position. We're big on competence, not appearance. As for gaining the trust of people on scene, if you don't trust me you can always wait for the next...

What are your protocols for DUI when off duty?

I dunno about other jurisdictions but fortunately for a number of people in our service actually getting convicted of a DUI in Alberta is highly improbable and nearly impossible. This essentially makes it a non-issue.

    Canada, eh?

I talked to one of my CF friends on msn and he says you're half right. Apparently not all CFMTs get the stage 2 training, it is based on need, class sizes, etc. Apparently the stage 2 at JIBC was implemented in those cases where the military respond to domestic emergencies so that they meet the...

What are your protocols for DUI when off duty?

With us its based on conviction, if you're convicted you're gone, if you're not then it never happened.
