911 experience and paramedic school (oc)

Hey! Here’s some thoughts for you. It looks like your question is this: Will running only IFT hinder you from getting into a medic program? Maybe. I don’t know about either of the agencies that you mentioned so please take that into account when reading my response. With that said, IFT can...

    Montgomery County Temporary Housing

I have accepted a position with MCHD, and moving without savings is difficult. I really want to avoid apartment rental and need something flexible and temporary until I find a house. I know it’s a long shot but is there anyone in Montgomery County TX who could help me with temporary housing? My...

    Implicit racial bias in EMS?

Here I go regretting the expression of my opinions again...lol Simon: you don’t need to apologize. Far be it from me to limit discussions in any way. I’m done arguing haha

    Implicit racial bias in EMS?

mgr22: While I’m not triggered, I am confused. When did an EMS forum become a posting ground for “substantive” sociological discussion/debate? Instead of debating actual treatment modalities and clinical advances were here having a back and forth on whether or not EMS professionals have racial...

    Implicit racial bias in EMS?

I don’t know how to respond to this. I think I can speak for many EMS professionals when I say that we’re tired. In the midst of a global pandemic we are already being put to the test. And now to top it all off we are having to add additional shifts and do additional work so the triggered...

MCHD or Acadian (CO to TX)

Nice! Thank you! I keep seeing a Texas drivers license as a requirement is something that I can get done once I’m there or will they throw my app away after they see I don’t have one?

MCHD or Acadian (CO to TX)

Renegade: Thank you very much for your detailed response. Very helpful! CCCSD: I’m tired of privatized EMS and I feel like I’m not making any progress going from one private agency to another every 2-3 years. But they are still an option. Parasite: That’s the plan. Hopefully I’ll have my pick...

MCHD or Acadian (CO to TX)

Hey guys, I’m trying to move to Southeast Texas in the near future and need some advice. I should be receiving my Texas Paramedic certification relatively soon (all that’s left is fingerprints). I have done extensive research into numerous services in the area and have come up with the...

Too young to work, any advice?

I don’t know about your area, but I would try for a job in the ED (good IV experience and you have doctors to ask lots of questions). And try to do an internship or explorer program to get your EMS fix. That or do lots of ride alongs if you’re able.

    ACS questioning.

I thought you were joking about the spicy food thing....not sure if that individual should be teaching.....As far as previous MI goes, A really smart guy once told me that pain is a poor predictor of illness. To me the most concerning thing about a rib fracture is desaturation (especially in...

    ACS questioning.

True fact: in my state, according to state protocols, EMTs can give NTG for pulmonary edema without a medic present or a 12 lead, provided the patient has a prescription for it Hmmm....perhaps we are in the same state. It’s a patient assist here too.

    ACS questioning.

Thanks! I’ll have to read more about nitro.!Our current medical directors say there is minimal evidence that nitro is helpful in cardiac patients. We can still give it if we feel it is necessary, and of course we have it for pulmonary/cardiac pulmonary edema. It was hard to get used to not...

    ACS questioning.

Thank you so much! This was super helpful. Currently my agency doesn’t give nitro for chest pain (Not part of the flow chart) but we don’t have protocols, (instead we have “guidelines”)so it can still be part of the treatment plan if indicated. I know exactly what you’re saying about EKGs, I...

    Zoll X Series Capnography tips?

That’s a good thought but we switch ambulances/monitors almost daily, and it’s the same for all of them. I’m a baby medic, so I’m figuring there has to be a knowledge gap. I’m actually kinda jealous of your Life Pack, simply because the tracing is larger.

    Zoll X Series Capnography tips?

Gotcha. I’ve been letting it warm up before plugging it in, so maybe I just need to study up on wave form recognition. Thank you!

    Zoll X Series Capnography tips?

I’ve consistently had issues with the Zoll capnograph. I have the EtCo2 set at max amplitude, and have yet to see a bronchospastic waveform on patients that would definitely exhibit this waveform (severe asthma etc.) on other monitors (Phillips MRX). Is this operator error? Any tips would be...

    ACS questioning.

I’m looking for a better way to differentiate cardiac chest pain from non-cardiac. At this point I’m first looking at the patient for skin color and diaphoresis. After that I palpate their sternum to see if that elicits pain, and ask questions based on you’re typical OPQRST. Finally I put...
