Why not? A nurse should have no issue on the medicine (actually, some may have trouble simplifying thinking to some of the medic-level questions, same as if a medic were taking an EMT test).
I also agree that a psychomotor exam and some sort of internship should be required. Internship can...
Nassau County, NY has a modified version through the Police Department. They are the countywide agency, although there is a glut of other ambulances via fire, hospital, etc...
Anyway, the PD runs a single-medic ambulance model. Medic responds to the scene, is met by the cops. Cop locks up the...
If you pass a course final exam, you should do well on the NYS test. Class exams are designed to prepare you and tend to be more difficult than the state. Always be ready for wonky state question wording though.
My county has this arrangement as part of the system. Police Dept runs a medic service. Single medic in ambulance, met on scene by PD who is usually dispatched to aided anyway. Cop drives the bus to the hospital.
Of course, it's only one part of the disjointed system which also includes 70+...
Well, after some time contemplating a move entirely out of state, I ended up being re-offered the EHS job I was offered last year right before covid and had more or less entirely written off. I had interviewed and accepted a conditional offer, submitted background check authorization, and then...

NYC for example. Police, Fire, EMS are all city jobs. EMS is paid absolute garbage and run around like crazy. People use it as a place holder job until getting hired by another city agency, hospital, or...
I'm going to take a wild guess that at some point in the past, lawyers got involved, and from that point the stretcher was pushed to prevent patients from walking.
FDNY EMS is one of those agencies that from the outside looks like it should be amazing, but is basically a publicly funded version of the crappiest private EMS companies. The only saving grace is the promotion to firefighter opportunity and there is a push to close that.
In NY the state reached out to all paramedics seeking help giving the vaccine at state sites. There is some training involved but it's more about procedure.
When you're not sure if you're going into keto flu from your new low carb diet or actually caught Covid because you find out you had an exposure last week... Getting tested today.
