    Instant Meals/MREs

If you can make hot water, Mountain House makes very edible/lightweight meals. MRE's are a good back up, but they are not as tasty and are heavier. IMO

    CELOX experience and comments?

Used it once in the field. It was the older tube injection style. Easy to apply if you have a good tract to follow, which I did in this case. It was an upper thigh (groin) wound....couldn't get the tourniquet high enough to be effective. I "think" it worked....it was that or the ton of...

"I saw it once on TV..."

Now address the original topic....youtube or something similar for learning. I am not a fan of distance learning...especially having just completed an online genetics course that I took for a little prep for a program I am about to start. I hated it. This is just me, but the complete lack of...

"I saw it once on TV..."

I've used both Sim-mans and trained actors to train my guys. This is purely my opinion. The sim-mans are good for medicine based scenarios that focus on procedural steps....ACLS for example. I do not use them for anything involving trauma. The guys I train are PJ's, so it isn't very...

REVIEW : Pelham Training - Acclerated Paramedic

The USAF uses Pelham for a military medic to paramedic bridge program. I know a few guys who went to it and had no complaints. Although, they did say some of the ride-along locations were weak....but I think you will get that in most places.

    Inside Combat Rescue

As mentioned...no. The J's and other USAF CASEVAC assets will fly with whole blood if they are working in an area with a bloodbank (Bastion does). Whole blood has been very valuable with initial resuscitation of battlefield trauma over the last decade. If blood is not available...

working with people that are burned out. ..

How to deal with it? With great difficulty. Here's the rub. There are bad medics and there are burnt-out medics. Many bad medics hide under the guise of being burnt-out to simply to hide the fact that they are crappy medics. I've seen this many times. It's difficult to tell the...

Have you had to use a AED ?

Once; guy down in a mall. Two shocks before EMS arrived...nothing. CPR was still in progress when they loaded. The AED came pretty quick and was in good working order. No problems.

What is your most ridiculous call?

A long time ago, I picked up a guy who shoved approx 3 feet of phone cord up his urethra. He claimed someone "put it there" after he passed out from a night of drinking. He later confessed it was a fetish. The cord coiled and knotted up in his bladder...he couldn't pull it out. Required...

Univ North Carolina Medic to PA program!

Could be. There are a few schools that actively seek military medics, UW being one of the main. Much of it has to do with folks not being able to get the pre-recs done while serving. About UNC...I could be wrong and things might have changed. I was in Bragg last year and this is what...

    What constitues a "Mid-level Provider"

Again, not a single fact, that is verifiable. Even your mention of the proposal in California is wrong. I take it you didn't read it? *Hint, you should be nodding your head in agreement. It was about independent practice for NP's....not PA's. The only mention of PA's had to do with...

    What constitues a "Mid-level Provider"

Brevity isn't your thing eh? You have yet to state one fact. Good luck to you in whatever you do. Sorry you have such a bad opinion of PA's...guess I'll have to live with that. Don't worry...I'm not crushed.;)

    What constitues a "Mid-level Provider"

I would dare say they do. Being a physician or med student adds zero validity to the the ignorant statements that have been said. MD's bashing PA's because they have more education? Seriously....you want a prize? Nowhere was it said that PA's are the same as MD's. Ego......

Univ North Carolina Medic to PA program!

I got some pretty good skinny on this when I last re-certified at the JSOMT. One, it is only 18D, but there is talk opening it up for the SO-IDC's who went through the long course. Two, this is not a "get out and start school" type of deal. The degree requirements are the same as most PA...

    What constitues a "Mid-level Provider"

NP's are used throughout Europe, especially in the UK. The UK is starting 2 PA programs as a test project, but they are running into funding issues...last I heard.

    What constitues a "Mid-level Provider"

Interesting statement....based on? There are some variances in the laws that govern PA in some states. Mainly it has to do with the PA/MD relationship...supervision. There aren't too many differences in scope, but there are some. So yes, take out the word "huge" and you are correct...

    What constitues a "Mid-level Provider"

Wow, I joined here to maybe get some info on state license issues....but maybe I won't. Explanation, I am a long time military medic/Paramedic and I will be starting PA school soon in another state. I would like to maintain my cert. Many of you guys really have no clue as to what a PA...
