I am in the same situation. I have my NREMT-B and my California EMT certification. I am up for re certification in March 2013. Maintaining my NREMT cert will be rather expensive, and I don't even know where I can obtain the 72 hours of Continuing EMT education required by the NREMT.
There is...
So I got initially certified as an NREMT-B last year so my expiration date is not until March 2013. From what I understand, I do not need to take the transition course to become a EMT, correct?
My second question is regarding what CE credits I need to re certify. I have reviewed the NREMT...
I appreciate your information and I am aware that my EMT skills are a bit rusty. Its clear from the posts that it's best that I take blood pressure over bare skin. Its been a while since I finished EMT training and have not been active in EMS work since. I am looking into continuing education...
I don't work for any emergency medical service, and my EMT duties are considered specialized training, though I don't get EMT equipment. I do have another primary job duty. However the the EMT title is vested on me so I do respond to any medical issues that get reported to us, but like other...
Actually one big issue of any medical related shows in the United States is the whole right to privacy. Especially when it comes to EMS work, no one wants to be seen on camera as having medical problems, and they wouldn't want to be bugged to sign the waiver form like they do in police reality...
Nope I am not provided with a BP cuff, steph, light to check pupils, or any other special equipment beyond a first aid kit. No OPA, NPA, or BVM either.
I'll make sure I take blood pressures without sleeves for accurate readings.
Thanks for the answer everyone. I will admit I am using a cheap blood pressure cuff, and cheap steph, one that I bought at Walgreens together for like 12 dollars I think. Definitely not something for patient use but for home use, but its all I got now. The problem is I am hearing very faint...
Okay thanks, also I am recently getting really high readings on people, like 140 over 100, is this the new normal? I keep thinking I am doing something wrong. And sometimes I don't hear the thump at all, and its a dead quiet room. Should I go off the dial movements then?
I am confused when it comes to checking blood pressure, as I have not done this in a while. I am confused as to when to record the readings so is this correct? When getting readings, you record the systolic pressure when you start hearing the thump, and record the diastolic when the thump...
Good luck, I only know of one person who has worked for Royal out of San Leandro. Don't know if he liked it but he later moved to AMR. Have not kept in touch so he may have moved onto Paramedics Plus. Royal, like Pro Transport, and these other small ones like Falcon, all are probably good...
Its not unusual for someone to get fired during training for being late because they are technically still on probation. It would be worse if that EMT had just came over from AMR though. I wonder if they have to go through another probation period or field training again....
EMTPCHE, You...
I personally don't see a problem with accelerated EMT programs. Theres actually a two week intesive EMT bootcamp course near where I am at and I know people that have went through the program and successfully completed the National registry and state requirements. An intensive course is not for...
Interesting. I didn't know that the medics in Santa Clara County lost their jobs. I'm assuming they were making too much, or just weren't good emmployees so Rural Metro just brought in a whole new crew. I guess its good that Paramedics Plus did rehire all the AMR employees. I wonder what AMR is...
Probably true that AMR is just not happy with losing a contract they have had for decades. Anyone know if the EMTs and Paramedics are happy or not happy with the switch?
I been reading somes news articles on the transition, and it appears that both sides are in court over the bid where Paramedics Plus underbid AMR. Any opinons on the transition, either from political or operational standpoints? Also are there any employees that just made the switch that can...
I guess to clarify my question, is the only difference between lay person CPR and Healthcare provider CPR is that the healthcare provider checks for a pulse while the lay person looks and listens for breathing durin ghte initial assessment?
But for both groups when the AED is not present...
Hi, so I am confused on the proper order of steps for CPR for heathcare providers as opposed to non healthcare providers.
For Healthcare providers
You first make sure scene is safe
Then check responsiveness
Then check pulse
If no pulse, start compressions
After 30, give 2 ventilations...
Just to confirm, after giving a shock with an AED, you immediately continues with CPR? No pulse check.
You keep going with chest compressions and ventilations (30:2) for 2 minutes. Then you check pulse, and if you get a pulse, check breathing. If you find a pulse, you assist with ventilations...
Pro Transport in San Francisco is hiring paramedics at the moment, but they are usually always hiring and hire lots of entry level EMTs as well. Their turnover is higher, many people moving on to other companies and fire departments for better pay or more excitement. In San Francisco, they...
