Sounds like you did everything right, and everything you could do.
There are no national standards for wilderness EMS so philosophically you're kinda on your own, while legally you're still bound to the local jurisdictions SOPs or the standard of care if you are out of your area. That being...
What's the deal with TV shows showing ambulance personell taking away the dead on the gurney under a white sheet? I know Medical TV shows are no place to look for accuracy, but there must be some reason this trend persists? I can't think of any service that doubles as coroners (that is, not...
Just the same in fact. From what I understand about computer adaptive testing the questions bank is the same, the program asks a specific number of questions from each questions as always, so you will still get 2-3 questions on lifting & moving!
I believe I had 45 or so questions.
mark - my situation was weird so I couldnt give you advice based on it - I was state certified since my initial but let my NREMT lapse, but based on silly overlapping employer demands I've taken literally 3 EMT refersher courses and an OEC refresher in the past 3 years, so I had CE galore . . ...
So I took the NREMT recert computer exam the other day, hadn't used the Computer adaptive testing since the initial.
I was surprised to see that I got three questions repeated later in the test, word for word.
They were about whats proper: HEPA mask on yourself and sugical mask on the TB...
Don't send it up the flagpole if you haven't tried addressing it with her first. It'd come back and be considered 'tattling', and really, transferring the responsibility without trying to solve the problem first is just as bad a her transferring her own personal sh*t on to you.
Catch her at...
TTCha - Check out remote medical international
"Remote Medical International’s (RMI) Medical Support Group is currently hiring EMTs, Paramedics, and Nurses for international assignment in a variety of locations around the world."
They do contract work around the globe and use WEMTBs a...
Rob,
Sounds like you're asking all the right questions.
From what I recall, I believe you can transfer from one NG unit to another. In which case perhaps a unit in a bordering state does have 68w opening. Join up there, commute for a while (hey, its only one weekend a month, two weeks a...
Are there any services that have a history of hiring new medics in NYC that don't take a while to get hired on?
I'd be open to Jersey City, but I really do want to stay in the NYC system. I am going to go to Laguardia.
I have 4 yrs experience as an EMT-I & ED Tech.
Thanks!

Recently I've been wondering why we give our verbal transfer of care reports to RNs & not MDs.
We do a comprehensive rule in/rule out assessment process, manage & treat complaints. Differential diagnosis, field diagnosis, assesment --- whatever you like to call it --- it is essentially a...
queen,
Just as an FYI: EMTs in some National Parks can give meds in the field with OLMC (though we always seemed to have ,eh , radio trouble^_^). At my park we were able to give epi(drawn up), aspirin, benedryl, ibuprofren, & Tylenol,
This is tricky territory as it is federal land with...
Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA), Wilderness Medical Institute of NOLS (WMI), and SOLO are considered 'the big three' of wilderness medicine education. Based on their years in the business and number of students taught annually
This is rapidly changing though, as many other groups are...
46young - do you think the added intensity of doing clinicals in the NYC system is better / worse / not different than your standard suburban/rural CC program that most attend?
Is there much of a difference?
I was wondering if anybody could list for me some the more progressive interventions that are not commonly found in every system.
Also, what is the status of the surgical cric? is that commonly in most medics scope? I found the new nationals scope model list percutaneous, not surgical...
not so much - I have housing connections in NYC (downtown) and near albany, so I inclined to either do the full on NYC program to get the benefit of clinicals in NYC units / hospitals, or just go to Hudson Valley Community College near albany.
Were you thinking of stony brook?
I am considering a couple of different NYC paramedic programs(laguardia, NY Methodist, St. Johns, BMCC) and I am looking for some input-
where did you go, where'd you're you're buddy whose a great medic go, where' that knuckle-dragger of a medic go, so on and so forth.
Any insider...
