Question about EMT certification in another state (CA to AZ)

Just wanted to give an update in case anyone is looking into it, I called the ADHS EMS/Trauma department in AZ, they told me that with the new structure (EMT instead of EMT-B, AEMT instead of I85 or I99, Paramedic instead of EMT-P) as long as my card says EMT, it's pretty much used across all...

Anyone heard of using a BP cuff as a tourniquet?

All the BP cuffs we have here are disposable, it's more sanitary, and the only thing that needs to be maintained is the bulb and gauge. It's kind of nice, it's like using a brand new cuff every time, and when you transfer care, just unclip it and leave the cuff on, and the ER staff use it on...

    Can I make it?

The thing that worries me is those underlying mental health issues. Nothing against you personally, it's just that in this line of work you need to make quick decisions and you see and experience some really traumatic things, things that can cause pretty severe psychological damage. If you're...

beginning an EMTBasic Course in September

Anatomy and physiology, and you need your AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers card to get in the class, I was referring more to the first aid and all that. Pathophysiology classes couldn't hurt either. They aren't pre-reqs or anything but they really don't hurt.

Brain matter, rigor mortis, levidity, decapitation, and theres a few more I think, or if they have a DNR.

    BLS EKG Interpretation

During my clinicals the ED tech and one of the nurses showed me how to hook up a 12-lead and showed me some of the more basic arrhythmias, that was pretty cool. It's good to know what v-tach/v-fib looks like, for example.

beginning an EMTBasic Course in September

You don't really need to take a first aid class, BLS for HP is enough, and you'll learn all that again anyways so theres no need to waste money. I would recommend looking online, they have free medical terminology classes. I need a few more posts to give links, but they should be pretty easy to...

Anyone heard of using a BP cuff as a tourniquet?

I understand that tourniquets should only be used as a last resort, such as a major arterial bleed or amputation. I heard from one of the medics that it's safer than using a belt or band because the surface area is more spread out and is less likely to injure the patient, and you can inflate it...

    Do Police-Paramedics exist?

CHP used to require officers to go through an EMT-B crash course (It was more like an EMR/first responder course), up until about 5 years ago or so. If I recall correctly, they weren't eligible to take the NREMT or get their state cert. Now it's optional.

Question about EMT certification in another state (CA to AZ)

I'm moving from CA to AZ, just passed my NREMT. I was trying to find more info but I really don't know where to look. Is it possible to just take my NREMT cert and take the state exam in AZ when I get there, or do I need to get my CA card first? Would there be any issues since I went through the...

Are you allowed to release c-spine, and when?

I live in Central CA, our local protocals say that c-spine (and backboard) can only be removed by a physician after they determine if it's needed or not. But if patient is refusing treatment, and is A&O x4, it just depends on the situation. It's easier to explain why you did something than why...
