What Would You Use For BSI?

...and what about your next patient?

Not planning on rubbing my body against the pt... Again the best thing you can do is wash your hands. That's the only thing that makes contact.

So your hands or the stretcher never once touch your body? Ever? I need your habits and lifting mechanics then!

Sowe're changing the discussion to stretcher hygiene? This is a tread about BSI.

It's one and the same since the patient is on the stretcher. Also, you never reach across the patient during your assessment or because you need something out of the cabinet opposite of the patient?

You all need to take a basic biology class. There is nothing you can do about bacteria. It's a fact of life. The best you can do is wash your hands. This is getting excessive and ridiculous.

Tell that to a surgeon as you cross into his sterile field... :)

Someone has never been on a Sprinter ambulance where almost everything is stored on the other side of the patient. I think its a stupid layout, but hey, they don't ask me.

What I Would Wear

So from all the replies I recieved, I would wear this BSI equipment:

-Gloves
-Goggles
-HEPA Mask

With the gloves, goggles, and HEPA mask it protects your hands and entry ways for pathogens. I just don't want to be walking in to a nursing home with flu going around and be breathing the same air as a 90-year old with a severe cough, or someone with a stomach virus.

I'll do anything to save someone in the EMS world, I just have to go home at night safe and healthy. :)
