There are a lot of aspects to this question, so if you cannot answer all of them, I'll appreciate your input on any of it. If you cannot help, at least giving the location or organization where I might be able to find the answer would be helpful. Also, if you give information could you please provide a source? This isn't because I doubt you but because I need a basis for the creation of this..... you'll see....

If I were an EMT, for this example, let's say it's the circus. Would I need to be an EMT in every state where the circuis travels or only for the "home" state of the circus?

Or does it not matter so long as I am functioning at a competent level that coincides with the level and abililty of the training I have received?

If I were an EMT for the circus, would I need to retain my own liability insurance? Or would being employed as a contractor with the circus allow me to operate under their insurance or at least not as an individual, should something legal arise from my actions.

This is all for now, I'm sure I'll think of something else.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe EMTs and Paramedics operate under the medical director(s)' license(s). There is probably a way to do what you're asking, but you certainly couldn't act on your own. You do need medical direction.

EDIT: Also, I'm thinking that it would be cheaper for something like a circus to hire an ambulance to be on standby in each location, rather than pay an EMT's salary and pay for their transportation, lodging, etc.

from my understanding the circus will contract with a local EMS provider to have a rig at the location. If you wanted to work for the circus as an EMT you would have to be certified in each state you go to in order to practice medicine there. Atleast thats my understanding.

AND you'll have to put on a pair of really tight pants and learn how to walk a tightrope so the circus can offset the cost.

does that mean you have to fix yourself if you fall?....if thats the case does the ambulance double as the clown car?

The best place for the exact answers to these questions would be the regulating body for EMS in every state/city you would be going to.

Easier Path = Hire a local agency for standby if it's really that necessary.

If travel is your main concern then I'd say become a Nurse. The mechanisms are already in place, there are services that put you on the road, and the pay is terrific.

This.

Compact licenses: Have a license in say, Maryland. You can work in 23(pending in 5 others) different states.
