Has anyone had the pleasure of dealing with this? I heard from a nurse it's an issue, but they're pretty small...
Just curious.
Comments?

Just like false teeth or anything else in the airway.... if it impairs your ability to control the airway, take it out.

I don't even know how the heck you would remove one? Does one end just screw off?

Most have a screw or some kind of latch you can take off.

Flip side: I do not see how they are so attractive. Very stupid and it looks ugly.

One end unscrews and the barbell just comes out. The nurse was complaining about how no nurse wants to take them out. I understand what would have to happen and find it no big deal, but just wondered if anyone had actually dealt with it, or thought it would be an issue.

To set the record straight,I have my tongue pierced it's for pleasure of the LADIES and, it's just fun having it.:P

But just think of your basic intubation procedures.... Ex/ blade placement? Extentsion of the arm? ETT placement? Etc...

None of the above would be altered due to a small metal bar/jewlery.

Removal would be a nightmare for me as I can't see how my fat fingers would safely take the jewelry out in 30 seconds, so I guess it would be removal and reoxygenate or hope I can work with/around it.

Have someone grasp one ball with the end of the magills, the balls usually fit perfectly. And then while that one is being held steady, unscrew the other one.

I've never had to take one out for an intubation, but I've taken them out of trauma patients before.

Unless they actual bar bells in their mouth. It should never interfere with intubation.

That works too. Speaking of forked tonuges, i saw one the other day.

Lmao. I have both sort of. My tongue is pierced and on my right side, it's also split. The split wasn't on purpose, but it's scarred that way. Neither are noticeable unless I stick my tongue out.

Oo how did it split?

It has to come out, otherwise is will create an unsatisfactory xray.

Dentist put what he called a spacer in because my mouth is too small. It was a bar that ran n the back of all my bottom teeth and cemented in back on both sides.
It continuously rubbed my tongue enough to "dig a trail", for lack of a better term. Doc said it was normal and refused to take it out.
So at the ripe old age of 9, I removed it myself when I realized tootsie rolls loosened one side.
Problem solved.
