Hi everyone. I wanted to share what happened with the 1st term paramedic final because I am seeking wisdom, advice, anything....I passed the written exam last night w/ an 88%, and the ecg rythm strips with a 78% I found out this am that even if I passed the written (which I did, with flying colors) that we had to have an 80% on the rythm strip portion. So now beside my score it reads "under review", but says "failed" after the rythm portion. I emailed my instructor to ask what "under review" meant, and he said that he is carefully going over my stuff again, to be respectful of the work we have all put into the class. I feel heartbroken-I passed the practical portion flawlessly, as he put it, and aced the written. I got at least an 80%, which I needed to pass. I understand the ecg strips are paramount, but they were on copied paper that had been re-copied many times, which made some of them incredibly difficult to interpret. The instructor even said "Good luck with these, everyone, I have been a paramedic for 20 years and don't what some of them are!" So, like I said, I am drifting aimlessly, waiting for his decision, and am experiencing every different wave of emotion you could imagine. I feel like I've lost a huge part of my life. What should I do now?

I would ask if you could make an appointment and review the rythm portion with him for a chance to justify your answers due to the quality of the copies.

Keep us up to date.

NO Honey It is not the end!! I so hate it when that kind of crap happens!! I had taken an ekg class and that very same thing happened, bad copies of ekg strips copied too many times :glare: Just review your ekg notes and talk to your instructor, I know it depends also how the class did a a whole also. Just hang in there and know we are all rooting for you!!!

I posted some questions in the other thread, but this has answered some of them.

Don't give up without a fight... talk to your classmates and see who else failed.... argue the point, argue that the instructor admitted, in front of wittnesses, that the strips were of poor quality.

There has to be a greivience process... if the course director turns you down, talk with the medical director... if you are affialited with a hospital or school, talk to the directors' boss... make noise... the squeaky wheel gets the grease :)

I don't know how it will all go down but by no means is this the end. I will be saying a prayer for you, I am headed to registry tomorrow. Please keep us updated!

Jenn

Good Luck with this. I sure hope this isn't the end for you.

Yeah I would challenge the quality of the ECG strips too. Honestly, if the instructor couldn't even read some of them, I don't see how that school could possibly administer a test using those strips. That's simply ridiculous.
