Hey y'all, I have a question and was hoping some of you might have some information:
As a Type 1 Diabetic, am I able to become an EMT? Can I progress past being an EMT to become a Paramedic? Would I be able to meet my final goal eventually of being SAR / Air Ambulance Paramedic? I've been getting conflicting information online and I'm not really sure how to get that information other than just going to an EMS station which I don't want to do and look like a jackass with no idea what I'm doing. I'm in North Carolina, if that matters.
I have heard that T1D makes it nearly impossible to get an ambulance license and therefore makes it hard to be a Paramedic. I would be willing to bet it would roadblock me from anything in the air as well. Just wanted to see if it would be worth trying to make a career out of EMS or if I would just get stopped in my tracks down the line.
Thank you for any information you might have.
