I am currently looking on getting a book/ textbook along with handheld pocket guide with useful english-to-spanish terms and phrases, specifically designed for EMS personel. Does anyone have any suggestions for good reading materials to get?

Spanish for Health Care Professionals

I have this text, which isn't targeted specifically to EMS, but has a pretty comprehensive emergency section. I like it because it can be read cover to cover as a crash course in speaking to Spanish-speaking patients, but also can easily be used for quick reference.

Not a textbook or a way to learn Spanish, but It's a laminated, point-to-pictures pamphlet that enables instant communication.
Even if you don't have it with you, it is sometimes easier to remember pictures with words. And it reminds you of what is essential to communicate.
Some texts seem to be general Spanish phrases with some medical terms thrown in.
I've seen a text that had the phrase "how long have you been married?" as a medical question. Really.

Those handy little EMS field guides have a few pages devoted to Spanish for EMS, and have about 100 phrases that you will commonly use during your assessment.
