I had a 6 y/o who was so frightened by her trauma that we couldn't get response out of her...

I couldn't find anything wrong except that she had fallen 30'. I tried eveything to calm her but nothing was working (always potential for a head injury). I really wanted to sing her a song but I couldn't think of ANYTHING to sing at the moment.

Do any of you ever sing to your patients?

What would you sing to a kid?

Yeah um if I sung, it would only make it worse. Even when I've sung my kids a lullybye they ask me to stop .

We keep teddy bears some kind of stuffed animal. When the medic I rode with asked me to help calm down a 6 year old at a MVA, I took her to the back of the rig, gave her the little bear, the important thing to remember is to get down on thier level, don't loom over them. Speak calm and soft telling them it's ok several times, and you'd be suprised, a hug from someone in uniform goes a long way with these kids.
