I live right in the corner of MA/CT/NY, unfortunately, theres not much around me. With MA transitioning to the NR this year, at some point I'll need to take the exam I'm sure. I was going to attend medic school around an hour and a half away, in MA, but that changed, I hope. I've been leaning towards taking the NREMT exam for my Basic, and attending school around an hour away. full time, and having my Basic I can eliminate a good chunk of class time. With any luck, the program wouldnt be any longer (its a semesterly based course it appears), and with some decent luck, itll take less time (daily classes vs. the standard couple times a week, again, from what I've seen). I have some questions though, and I couldnt find the answers on the NREMT site.
First, Will I need to recertify my licenses (NY and MA), as well as my NREMT certification every two years? and,
Second, will there be multiple recertification fees?
These are my big quesitons right now, as money is tight (I landscape, and dont have much steady income in the winter). Sure, I could get on the schedule for the service I "work" at, but there are MANY flaws to the scheduling system and who gets scheduled when and why. I want to start making something of my license, outside of two graveyard shifts, every two weeks, paid by the call on a slow service which is supplemented by acting as a first responder on the volunteer fire department I work on..also VERY slow in general. There arent many openings around me for an EMT-Basic job, and the service I "work" for doesnt help me much on any applications because its SO slow. Not to mention, I'm not sure I could accept the low payment wage to travel 45 minutes one way to work. Ranting aside, what am I looking at for renewal expenses, and would it make sense to keep both licenses outside of having one if I needed it in the future? I would be attending school in NY, and then transferring my P back to MA, while still retaining my NY license after I get my P. Had a lot going on, but need to get things going, but need some clarification on this post. Shoot out anything I need to know, and I'm sure I'll have more questions as it comes up.
