San Bernardino Air Medic

Wow. It's hard to believe this county won't even staff their helicopter with paid personnel.

Don't know if the volly positions still exist, but SBCoFD is now staffing Air Rescue 6 with a Fire Medic

Did a quick search on here turned up nothing. Anybody have more information on this? Requirements? Competitive volunteer position? There's very little info and I just sent off an email to them so if need be I'll update here. Thanks

2-3 years as a medic on a 911 system and you have to be able to do at least 1 shift per month with them.

My medic program director flys with them. I'll see if I can dig out the interest form that lists more requirements.

Qualifications: be at least 21 years old. Have a valid drivers license. Have a high school diploma. Be able to pass a background investigation.

Be able to pass the following: intensive oral exam, orientation class, physical agility test, 18-month probation.

Plus one of the following: employeed as a paramedic with 2 years of experience, ICEMA accreditation prior to appointment.

(Licensed physician or RN)

Duties include:
2 flight days per month
Monthly team business meetings
Hoist rescues
Helicopter extraction of patients
Rescue hikers and accident victims
Mandatory training sessions
Search and Rescue
Helitac support operations.

Each air medic supplies a uniform, survival gear, and personal medical gear.

Anyone know how long the shifts are or where are they based out of? I know LASD has volunteers on their search and rescue teams. I don't think any of them fly on Air-5.
