Does anyone work for Sac Metro? I searched the forum but wasn't able to have any luck with this. It appears they have both a FF/Paramedic and a Paramedic position. I have never had much interest in being a firefighter, but love being a paramedic. Are the paramedic only positions treated like second class citizens where the FF/medics call the shots? Or is it more of a third service where Fire supplements the care until Transport arrives? Thanks for your help, guys!

The single function positions at Sac Metro are not permanent, they are essentially a working interview for FF/P and max out at 3 years; if they haven't decided to hire you as a FF/P by then, you are released.

Look into SFFD if you want a good single function paramedic job with a municipality in Northern CA. The FT positions won't open again for a few years but a per diem position (H8) will pop up from time to time. That is the best way to get in there currently. That said, you can't get a FT spot if you're not currently on the list.
